POST COMES FROM WAY BACK TO FINISH FOURTH IN NCAAs; CACC COMES UP WITH STRONG SHOWING

May 5, 2005

Courtesy of Tim McCaffrey Post Sports Information

Jackson, NJ-The Post University golf team, ranked third in the northeast region, ended in fourth of eight teams after play was complete at the 7100-yard Pine Barrens Country Club in Jackson New Jersey NCAA Super Regionals. The Eagles shot the third best round of the eight teams on both day two and day three.

Post shot 315 for a three-day total of 960, 50 strokes behind Bryant College. Tommy Dorso (Waterbury, CT) ended in fifth place with a total score of 231 (+15), 11 shots behind the winners. Dave Croteau (Terryville, CT) fired a 72, the third best round by any golfer to come into a tie for sixth. He was outside the top 25 after day one. Calum Malcolm (Dunferminline, Scotland) ended with 78 to jump to 16th. Full scores are available at:

?Tommy is a true competitor,? said Pete Stevens, Post Head Golf Coach. ?For the team to come all the way back from seventh and almost last and play as well as we did shows the true character of our team. Tommy deserves a lot of the credit because he always rises to the challenge in the big events and the last three days were no exception. Dave (Croteau) played very well today. He is to be commended for his efforts.?

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference proved they were not the weak sister at the event. Goldey-Beacom ended in third place with a 956 total. Mike Tobiason (Wilmington, DE) finished tied for sixth (232). The big mover in the final two days was Dominican College?s Bryan Mackey. The freshman fired rounds of 72 and 73 to finish an impressive fourth. Mackey got off to a shaky start in day one. He was six over in his first four holes. From there the youngster got his nerves under control and there was nobody better than Mackey in the final two rounds. Nyack?s John Carr ended 26th at 30-over. Carr was off to a promising start after a first round 75, but faltered in the final two days. GBC?s Steve Cutler was one of only five players to card all three rounds in the 70?s. Cutler finished Tied for 13th.
