October 3, 2004

SYRACUSE, N.Y. * St. Thomas Aquinas teamed for a two-day total 592 to hold off Bryant College for the team championship in the 2004 ECAC Division II Men's Golf Championship held at the 6,213 yard, par 71 Drumlins East Course. Le Moyne College sophomore Dan McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and St. Thomas Aquinas College junior Matt DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y./Valley Central) totaled 144 strokes (+2) to earn co-medallist honors. DeMaro and McCarthy were unable to break their tie because of darkness.

DeMaro shot a one-under par 70 on the second day to help the Spartans to a team total of 299 for the second round. St. Thomas Aquinas held a 10-stroke lead after the opening round, but Bryant equaled the St. Thomas Aquinas opening day total with a second round score of 293. The Bulldogs, who shot 303 on the opening day, finished in second place, four strokes back with a two-day toal of 596. West Chester (613) edged Teikyo-Post (614) and Le Moyne (615) for third place. Southern New Hampshire followed up its opening 305 with a round of 313 to finish sixth at 618, Assumption (623) was seventh followed by New Haven (624), Goldey-Beacom (630) and Pace rounded out the top ten with a 632. Saint Rose, Dowling and Franklin Pierce tied for 11th with a score of 639, Adelphi (642) was 14th, followed by Bentley (646) and Saint Anselm (646), Queens (648), Saint Michael's (651) and UMass Lowell (664).

DeMaro's round under par was the low score for the day. McCarthy, the ECAC Division II Champion last season as a freshman, followed up a one-over 73 with an even-par 71 to finish in first for the second consecutive season. Bryant senior Dan Falcucci (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin) and a pair of golfers from Teikyo-Post, Dave Croteau (Terryville, Conn./Terryville) and Calum Malcolm (Dunfermline, Scotland/Queen Anne) shot 146 to finish in a three-way tie for third.

Nineteen teams and 97 golfers competed in this season's championship.
