SYRACUSE, N.Y. * Freshman Mike Tulacz (Connelly, N.Y./Kingston) shot an opening round 71 to take the individual lead and help his St. Thomas Aquinas team to a 10-stroke lead over the 19-team field after the first day at the ECAC Division II Men's Golf Championship. Tulacz carded the only par round at the 6,213 yard, par 17 Drumlins East Course.

Sophomore Pat Cibrika (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) fired a two-over 73, junior Matt DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y./Valley Central) a 74 and Jayson Kohlman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) sits in a tie for ninth place with a four-over 75 as all four of the counted St. Thomas Aquinas scores were among the top nine scores for the day.

Thirty golfers carded scores within seven strokes of the leader. Dan Falcucci (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin) shot a one-over 72 for the No. 2 individual spot heading into the final day. Dave Falcucci (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin), Cibrika and Le Moyne sophomore Dan McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) are two strokes off the pace.

Northeast-10 Conference Champion Bryant (303) enters tomorrow's final round two shots ahead of Southern New Hampshire (305) and five strokes up on West Chester (308). Three schools, New Haven, Teikyo-Post and the host school, Le Moyne teamed for 310 to tie for the fifth place. Assumption (318) is eighth, followed by Goldey Beacom (320), Pace (321) and Saint Rose (321), Adelphi (322) and Dowling (322), UMass Lowell (327), Saint Michael's (328), Queens (329), Bentley (331) and Franklin Pierce (331) and Saint Anselm (334).
