First Round Complete In Eagle Shootout

Middlefield, CT?The Teikyo Post University golf team finished third of nine teams after first round play at the 6800-yard Lyman Orchards Golf Club.

Post came in at 311, three strokes behind Dowling College. State-rival University of New Haven stands at 309. Goldey-Beacom College and Adelphi University are tied for forth at 320. Pace University, Queens (NY) College, Wilmington (DE) College, and Nyack are sixth through ninth. Complete scores are below.

TPU?s Tommy Dorso, Jr. (Waterbury, CT) leads the individual competition with a 72.

?I don?t care if I win, I just want to win the team title,? said Dorso.

Dorso is three shots clear of Dowling?s Dan Britt and New Haven?s Mike McKenna. Three more golfers are four shots back, including Post?s Calum Malcolm (Dunferminline, Scotland). Dave Croteau (Terryville, CT) finished with a 79, after being seven over through seven holes he finished the final 11 at even par.

?Hopefully we can string a good round together and win this thing,? said head coach Pete Stevens. ?The competition is tough, but I?m very confident in my guys.?

Final round play starts Friday at 9:52 am.
