Goldey-Beacom Golf Finishes 9th at ECAC Division II Championship

SYRACUSE, NY ? The Goldey-Beacom College golf team finished in ninth place this past weekend at the 2004 ECAC Division II Men?s Golf Championship, hosted by Le Moyne College at the 6,213 yard, par 71 Drumlins East Course.

The Lightning finished with a team score 630, posting a 320 in round one on Saturday before cutting their score by 10 strokes to 310 on the second and final day of competition.

St. Thomas Aquinas captured the team championship with a combined score of 592, four strokes better than Bryant College, which finished four strokes back at 596. West Chester finished in third place at 613, followed by Teikyo Post at 614 and Le Moyne at 615. Individually, Dan McCarthy of Le Moyne and Matt DeMaro of St. Thomas Aquinas finished atop the leaderboard with a score of 144.

Junior Mike Tobiason (Wilmington, DE) was the top finisher for the Lightning, shooting a 79 in round one and a 75 in round two for a combined score of 154. Senior Michael Clair (Landenberg, PA) finished in a tie for 29th place with a score of 156. He shot a 79 in round one and a 77 in round two.

Sophomore Steve Cutler (Kennett Square, PA) was next for Goldey-Beacom in a tie for 43rd place as he shot a 79 in both rounds to finish at 158. Junior Nick Nardo (Newark, DE) finished in a tie for 59th place with a final score of 162, shooting an 83 in round one and a 79 in round two. Sophomore Dave Pfotzer (Newark, DE) rounded out the lineup for the Lightning, finished in a tie for 87th place at 171, shooting an 87 in round one and an 84 in round two.

The Lightning return to action Tuesday, October 12 when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Holy Family University at Torresdale-Frankford Country Club.
