WILMINGTON, Del. -- The Felician men's cross-country team tied for the least number of points at the Goldey-Beacom College Inivitational on Saturday at Carousel Park. Felician, however, fell to second place by losing the tiebreaker, position of the sixth man, to West Chester University. The Golden Falcon women placed fourth out of 14 schools.
West Chester men's runners finished first and second individually in the race. Felician overcame the Ram's early-race dominance by placing four of its five scorers between 9th and 17th. Mike Burghoffer was the Golden Falcon frontrunner for the first time in three weeks, completing 8.000 meters in 28 minutes, 8.40 seconds. Paul Chegwidden finished 13th in 28:28.00, and he was followed closely by teammates Alex Wright (16th, 28:41.77) and Brad Schepise (17th, 28:46.06).
Jonathan Castro's 32nd place finish gave Felician 87 points, the same total as WCU. The Rams' 6th runner finished 40th overall, nine places better than Felician's Brian McDonnell (31:20.48). Eight of the 11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schools were entered in the event.
The Felician women finished with 116 points, 52 behind team champion Ursinus College and five back of top CACC finisher USP. Amanda Scibetta (7th, 21:20.51) and Melissa Barroqueiro (9th, 21:35.22) both cracked the top ten out of 108 entrants in the 5,000-meter race. Also scoring for the Golden Falcons were Jo Milling (29th, 22:52.76), Megan Williams (32nd, 23:00.86), and Sophia Chick (39th, 23:30.06).
