Lakewood, NJ ?The Georgian Court University Soccer Team continued their winning ways against Dominican College this afternoon under the bright skies of Lakewood. The Lions were able to secure a 2-1 victory when Maryanne Uldrich (Toms River, NJ/Southeastern University) finished a Nicole Mateyka (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) free kick in the first overtime period. GCU improved their record to 9-3-1, 6-0-1CACC while the Chargers fell to 3-9-2, 2-4-1 CACC.
Georgian Court opened the scoring just four minutes into the game when Maria Lombardi (Freehold, NJ/Brookdale Community College) redirected a shot by Uldrich to give the Lions an early lead. For Lombardi it was her third goal of the season. The Chargers of Dominican College were able to equalize the score in the 36th minute when Tricia Dugan intercepted a pass and found the back of the net.
Both teams had chances in the second half to win the game but the scored remained tied as the first overtime period began and wasn't until Uldrich's sixth tally of the season that GCU was able to enjoy the win.
Lindsay Hammond (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) was credited with her sixth victory as she logged 51:30 scoreless minutes and recorded 3 saves. Melissa Rauth (Lacey, NJ/Lacey Twp.) worked the first half allowing only the Dugan goal and saving 2 shots.
The team will finish their current four game homestand with a non-conference match with Mercy College (2-8, 2-4 ECC) on Monday, October 9th at 3:30pm. The Lions are 5-2 when playing in the Lions' Den.
