Lakewood, NJ ? The Georgian Court University Soccer team improved to 5-0-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with their 6-1 win over Bloomfield College (1-11, 0-11 CACC). The Lions' Vanessa Piepszak (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) came out strong and scored in the first five minutes of play off a corner kick by Nicole Mateyka (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge). Bloomfield's Mirlande Teleus countered with an 18-yard shot over Goaltender Lindsay Hammond's (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) head at the 5:30 mark

The Lions were able to put three more goals past the Deacons' Danielle Blumberg in the first half. Maria Lombardi (Freehold, NJ/Brookdale C.C.) challenged Blumberg one-on-one in the 9th-minute of play off a cross from Piepszak. Katherine Torode's (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) 7th goal for the season came at the top of the box from a pass by Erica Kaps (Jackson, NJ/Monsignor Donovan). The last goal of the half came after Kaps sent a through-ball to Piepszak and Alley Abbate (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) finished it off by putting it past Blumberg.

In the 2nd-half, the Lions put another one on the board after Mateyka put away a penalty shot over Bloomfield's Blumberg. Wrapping up the game for Georgian Court was Piepszak once again scoring off a through-ball by Abbate.

Georgian Court out-shot Bloomfield 31 to 7, but Bloomfield's Danielle Blumberg is credited with 13 saves. Piepszak led the Lions with 7 shots with Kaps trailing behind with 4.

Georgian Court improves to 8-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 overall in the CACC. The Lions are back in action Thursday afternoon at home against Dominican College for another conference match-up. GCU was slated to play Dominican in September but had to reschedule due to weather. The Chargers are 2-8-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
