WILDCATS DOWNED BY GOLDEY-BEACOM

WILMINGTON, DE ? The Wildcats of Wilmington College dropped a CACC volleyball match to the rival Goldey-Beacom College Lightning, 3-1 on Tuesday evening at MBNA America Hall.

Goldey-Beacom took the first two games by scores of 30-24 and 30-26, while Wilmington rallied to take game three, 32-30. The Lightning put the match away in game four, 30-15, to come away with the all-important conference victory.

Wilmington was led by senior outside hitter Kristin Wiedeman. Wiedeman notched 18 kills and 22 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Brittani Leathern added 11 kills as she hit an astounding .500 on the night. Junior setter Cheyann Gilroy chipped in with 39 assists, 12 digs, and six kills, while junior libero Shannon Freel had 18 digs for the Wildcats.

The Lightning was led by Ashley Carberry's match-high 21 kills. Stephanie Rosado added 16 kills and nine digs, while Adrienne Melvin chipped in with nine kills, 18 digs, and six aces. Setter Danielle Hicks had 55 assists, 14 digs and seven kills, and Jill Murphy added 16 digs for Goldey-Beacom.

With the loss, the Wildcats dropped to 7-5 in the CACC and 7-18 overall, while Goldey-Beacom improved to 9-3 in the conference and 10-10 on the season. Wilmington returns to action on Thursday evening when they travel to Philadelphia University to take on the Rams in a CACC match beginning at 7:00 PM.
