Nyack, NY * Nyack College defeated Southern New Hampshire University this afternoon, 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match at Mosely Field. Nyack improves to 4-10 overall and 1-5 in the CACC. Nationally ranked SNHU drops their third straight match and falls to 6-4-2 overall.

Nyack was led by the outstanding play of keeper Jack Carillo (Cornwall, NY). He recorded 5 saves on his way to the shutout while making many outstanding plays throughout the game. Eric Martinez (Kerville, TX) scored the only goal of the game for Nyack in the 24th minute. He was battling with two defender and had the ball taken away inside the box of SNHU. He kept fighting for the ball and it popped out to an open area in front of the goal where he beat everyone with a blast to the left side that keeper Dan Pelc got a hand on, but did not have much of a chance of saving.

The rest of the game was very physical on both side of the ball. The two teams combined for 42 total fouls, 22 against Nyack and 20 against SNHU. Shots on goal were almost even with Nyack out shooting SNHU 8-7. Corner kicks were 6-4 in Nyack's favor.

The men's soccer team has now won 3 straight games all at home. This marks the team's best stretch of the season and may be a sign that things are looking up for this young team. They are back in action again on Thursday October 12th when they face off against conference arch rival Dominican College at home at 3:30pm.
