SPOKANE, Wash. – Former Ram Abraham Almonte was selected to the Pioneer League All-Star Game for his performance in the first half of the short-seasoned, Rocky Mountain-based rookie league. Almonte will be one of three to represent the Missoula Osprey on the North Division roster.
The Pioneer League will take on the Class-A Short Season Northwest League on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 10:05 p.m. ET in Hillsboro, Oregon for the inter-league All-Star Game. The game will be streamed live on MiLB.TV.
Almonte owns a 1.74 earned run average in nine appearances for the Osprey, converting all five of his save opportunities on the season to help anchor the bullpen. Through 10.1 innings pitches, the former Ram has 16 strikeouts to just three walks. The Danbury, Connecticut native also boasts a 1.16 WHIP.
In his three-year career with the Rams, Almonte appeared in 33 games and posted a 9-6 overall record and the second-best earned run average in school history (2.41). He struck out 125 batters across 112 innings and threw the first no-hitter since 1999 on April 3, 2015 in a 7-0 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) University.
An All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference First Team selection in the spring of 2017, Almonte led the conference with 71 strikeouts and 11.34 strikeouts per game. He finished the season with a 3-3 record and a 2.40 earned run average. Almonte also finished third in the conference in complete games (3) and shutouts (1), 15th in innings pitched (56.1) and 23rd in batting average against (.206).
He was selected in the 26th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Entry Draft this past June by the Arizona Diamondbacks, becoming the eighth Ram and the first since 1999 to get drafted.
