WATERBURY, Conn. (May 31, 2012) – A pair of Post University baseball alumni signed contracts with the Karlskoga Bats in Sweden. Former catcher and first baseman Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.) was announced by the club on May 29, while Brendan Barry (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was added to the team earlier in May.

"I'm very happy for Brendan and Russell," head coach AJ McNamara said. "This is a tremendous opportunity for these young men to see the world and play competitive baseball. I wish them the best of luck and am certain they will be successful."

Sirko was a mainstay in the Eagles' lineup during the 2012 season, and played in 39 games. He totaled 24 hits, six of which went for extra bases, including a pair of triples. For the year, he boasted an on-base percentage of .389. Sirko was a criminal justice major at Post.

Barry led Post in average during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. In 2010 he sparked the lineup with a .356 average and a team-best 63 hits and 12 doubles. He spent the 2012 season as an assistant coach at the State University of New York (SUNY) Old Westbury. Barry earned his degree in sport management.

The Karlskoga Bats reached the Swedish national finals in 2010. The squad has won the 2007 and 2009 national championships.
