Wilmington and Felician Earn Weekly CACC Baseball Honors
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 8, 2012) – Wilmington's BJ Janney (Elkton, Md.) has been recognized as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending May 6. Felician's D.J. Stinsman (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and Wilmington's Justin DeLong (New Castle, Del.) were named CACC Co-Pitchers of the Week, while Wilmington's Frank Samluk (Middletown, Del.) was honored as the CACC Baseball Rookie of the Week.
CACC Baseball Player of the Week
BJ Janney, Wilmington (So., 3B, Elkton, Md.)
Hit. 600 (6-of-10) over two games last week, including a pair of doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Posted an. 800 slugging percentage while leading the Wildcats to a win over Philadelphia (5/2) and a 6-2 loss against NCAA Division I member University of Delaware (5/1).
CACC Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week
D.J. Stinsman, Felician (Sr., RHP, Egg Harbor Township, N.J.)
Tossed 8.0 innings over two games last week while allowing just one earned run. Picked up a CACC victory over Concordia (5/2), while yielding one run and four hits over 6.0 innings. Followed that with two innings of scoreless relief in 1-0 loss vs. No. 20 Southern New Hampshire. Limited his opponents to a .172 batting average for the week.
Justin DeLong, Wilmington (So., LHP, New Castle, Del.)
Tossed 7.2 innings in 9-2 win over Philadelphia (5/2) while allowing four hits and just a single earned run. Fanned a total of nine hitters over his 7.2 innings while issuing just a single walk.
CACC Baseball Rookie of the Week
Frank Samulk, Wilmington (Fr., Utility, Middletown, Del.)
Hit .429 (3-of-7) over two games last week including a double and three RBI. Also walked twice for an on-base percentage of .556.
CACC Baseball Honorable Mention
Kevin Whitehead, Felician (Jr., C/DH, Tonawanda, N.Y.)
Posted a .444 (4-of-9) batting average for the week and was on base a total of six times for a .545 on base percentage. Went 3-for-5 with a run scored in 5-2 win over Concordia (5/2).
Tony Blake, Dominican (Jr., OF, Windsor, Conn.)
Registered a .417 (5-of-12) average over three games last week while adding three doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.
Rafael Medina, Bloomfield (Sr., 1B, Key Largo, Fla.)
Hit .400 (4-of-10) over three games last week including a 4-for-7 performance in a doubleheader vs. NCAA Division I member Army (5/5). Finished the week with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored.
Matthew Facendo, Felician (Fr., RHP, Hazlet, N.J.)
Did not allow a single run over two appearances last week, while fanning four and not issuing a walk over two innings of relief work. Tied Felician record with seventh save of the season vs. Concordia on May 2.
CACC Baseball Notes
Bloomfield - Junior shortstop Jonattan Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) hit .462 over Bloomfield's three-game week, notching six hits totaling a .500 on-base percentage while stealing a pair of bases in three attempts. Senior first baseman Rafael Medina (Key Largo, Fl.) went 4-7 with 3 RBIs in the team's doubleheader against Division I Army Saturday afternoon, raising his RBI total to 40 and place him in a three-way tie for the CACC lead in the category.
Felician - Senior 2B Mickey Zudonyi became Felician's all-time hits leader with a 4 for 5 performance against Concordia on Wednesday. His 215 career hits surpass the 214 of former teammate Marcos Torres from 2007-10. After a 17-hit performance against the Clippers, the Golden Falcons were held to a combined six safeties in a doubleheader in a pair of shutout losses on Sunday to No. 20 nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire. In this week's CACC Tournament, Felician seeks its first conference championship.
