Led by senior Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), third-seeded Dominican eliminated fourth-seeded Bloomfield by a 6-3 margin in the first game of Friday's tripleheader. Javins, who improved to 4-3 on the season, threw his second complete game of the season and allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out nine hitters.
Junior outfielder Tony Blake (Windsor, Conn.) went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Chargers, who used a five-run second inning to advance. Meanwhile, senior Edgardo Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) had two runs batted in for Bloomfield.
In the second game, the second-seeded Wildcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit to advance to Saturday's championship game with a 4-2 victory over top-seeded Felician.
After the Golden Falcons scored a run in the first and fourth innings, the Wildcats exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Junior B.J. Janney (Elkton, Md.) hit a three-run triple with one out to give Wilmington a 3-2 lead before senior Mike Godwin (Hockessin, Del.) added a run on a single to left center field.
Junior David Hatt (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) upped his record to 5-1 by scattering six hits over seven innings. Meanwhile, senior Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, Fla.) had three hits in a losing effort for the Golden Falcons.
In the nightcap, Felician responded with five unanswered runs after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first en route to an eventual 7-4 win over No. 3 seed Dominican.
Felician scored three unearned runs off five Domincan errors in the victory. Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, N.J.) paced the Golden Falcons at the plate with two hits and three runs scored.
The CACC Championship will conclude on Saturday morning. Wilmington and Felician will meet at 11:00 a.m. at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington. If a second game is necessary, it will be played at approximately 2:00 p.m. with the winner earning the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Wilmington and Felician Advance to Final Day of 2012 CACC Baseball Championship
WILMINGTON, Del. (May 11, 2012) – No. 2 seed Wilmington and No. 1 seed Felician posted wins on Friday to advance to the final day of the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament.
Wilmington remains undefeated in the double-elimination event and needs just a single win over Felician on Saturday to earn the conference title, while the Golden Falcons would need to put together a pair of wins to earn the CACC Championship.
