2010 Baseball Weekly Award Winners
March 8
Player of the Week: Mickey Zudonyi, Felician
(Jr., INF, 5-9, Holmdel, N.J.) - Hit .380 in 12 games with 12
runs scored, five RBI, three doubles, one triple and six stolen
bases. Collected multiple hits in seven games, including a 3-for-4
performance with one run and one run batted in against USP. Went
2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI vs. St. Rose.
Pitcher of the Week: Phil Messerian, Felician (Sr., RHP, 6-2, Fair Lawn, N.J.) - Is 3-1 thus far in 2010 with a 3.38 ERA. He is riding a streak of 14 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. He tossed a 5-hit shutout vs. C.W. Post with one walk and five strikeouts and allowed one run in six innings against Philadelphia.
Rookie of the Week: Joe Petosa, Felician (Fr., OF, 5-10, Spotswood, N.J.) - Hit .341, drove in 12 runs, scored seven times and hit one home run in his first collegiate action. Homered in his third game against Lander and drove in two runs against Lander, Philadelphia and USP. He collected three hits against STAC.
March 15
Player of the Week: Phil Messerian, Felician (Sr., OF, 6-2, Fair Lawn, N.J.) - Hit .533 in five games with six runs scored, three runs batted in, two triples and one double. Combined to go 4-for-7 with four runs scored in a double-header against Franklin Pierce.
Pitcher of the Week: Thomas Forkin, Caldwell (Sr., RHP, Oceanside, N.Y.) - Fanned a career-high 10 batters and did not allow an earned run over 8.0 innings of work in a victory over Saint Michael's.
Rookie of the Week: Joe Petosa, Felician (Fr., OF, 5-10, Spotswood, N.J.) - Hit .400 in five games with seven runs scored, three RBI, one double, one triple and one stolen base. He drove in two runs and stole a base in game two of a double-header against Franklin Pierce. Crossed the plate twice and had two hits against both Molloy and Southern Connecticut.
March 22
Player of the Week: Difre Reyes, Concordia (Sr., 3B, 6-0, New York, N.Y.) - Helped lead Concordia to a 7-0 week with a .512 (17-for-33) batting average with eight runs scored, eight runs batted in, five doubles, one home run and three stolen bases. Collected at least two hits in all seven games, including four in a game against USP. He blasted a home run in a win over conference rival Dominican.
Pitcher of the Week: Keith Malanga, Concordia (So., RHP, 6-5, Mount Vernon, N.Y.) - Earned a win and a save with a 0.00 earned run average in three appearances last week. He allowed only three hits in 8.2 innings of work with seven strikeouts. Recorded a win over USP and saved a game against Dominican.
Rookie of the Week: Eric Skutch, Concordia (Fr., RHP, 6-2, Ithaca, N.Y.) - Recorded a win and a save in three appearances for the Clippers. He did not allow an earned run for the week, surrendered just seven hits in 9.2 innings and fanned 10 batters.
March 29
Player of the Week: Mike Godwin, Wilmington (So., C, 6-1, Hockessin, Del.) - Led Wilmington to a 5-0 week with a .500 batting average while catching all five contests. Drove in five runs, scored five times, hit one home run, two doubles and stole three bases. Smashed a homer against Nyack, scored twice and had four runs batted in against the Warriors. He went 3-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI in a victory over USP.
Pitcher of the Week: Todd Craig, Dominican (Sr., RHP, 6-1, Shenandoah, Pa.) - Notched two wins last week, one as a starter and one in relief. Hurled 10.1 total innings and allowed zero earned runs, eight hits, and walked three while fanning 11. He struck out nine batters in 8.0 innings of work against Philadelphia.
Rookie of the Week: Doug Wells, Post (Fr., C, 6-2, Staten Island, N.Y.) - Hit .333 last week with four RBI, two runs scored and one double. Went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in a 13-7 win over Bloomfield. Also drove in two runs with a double in a 6-5 win over Mercy.
April 5
Player of the Week: Brian Short, Wilmington (Sr., 2B, 5-10, Ashburn, Va.) - Hit .467 with six runs batted in, five runs scored, six stolen bases and two doubles in a 4-0 week. Had the game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the 15th inning against Post. He also stole three bases that game against the Eagles.
Pitcher of the Week: Buddy Riggs, Caldwell (Sr., RHP, Coral Springs, Fla.) - Notched a complete game victory over Nyack. Scattered eight hits and allowed one earned run, while fanning nine and walking one batter.
Rookie of the Week: Todd Blair, Post (Fr., SS, 5-10, Ajax, Ontario) - Hit .375 in four games with two runs scored, two RBI, three doubles and one stolen base. Delivered an RBI and a double in both ends of a DH against Concordia.
April 12
Player of the Week: Tyler Mentzer, Philadelphia (Sr., SS, 5-11, Gettysburg, Pa.) - Hit .625 in four games with two home runs, seven runs scored, six RBI, two doubles and four stolen bases. Went 3-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored and a homer in a win over Wilmington. Also went 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and three stolen bases in a victory vs. Concordia.
Pitcher of the Week: Gary Thompson, USP (Sr., LHP, 6-2, Sicklerville, N.J.) - Hurled a complete game shutout against Caldwell to end USP’s 43-game losing streak, dating back to last season. Allowed only two singles and one walk while fanning eight in nine innings of work.
Rookie of the Week: Mike Farell, Felician (Fr., 3B/DH, 6-0, Lincroft, N.J.) - Hit .412 in a 4-1 week with six RBI, three runs scored, two doubles and one home run. Connected for a 3-run homer in a 6-5 win over Bloomfield and went 3-for-4 with two RBI in a victory vs. Post.
April 19
Player of the Week: Tommy Maloney, Dominican College (Sr., 1B, 6-1, Massapequa Park, N.Y) - Hit .417 in a 4-2 week with five runs scored, five RBI, three doubles and one home run. Finished the week by going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, two doubles and a homer in a win over Bloomfield. Collected two hits in each game of a double-header at Concordia.
Pitcher of the Week: Victor Monteagudo, Felician College (So., RHP, 6-1, West Palm Beach, Fla) - Went 1-0 last week with a 0.69 ERA in two appearances. Threw a total of 13.0 innings and allowed only seven hits and one run while fanning 14. Allowed one hit over 6.0 innings of relief against Chestnut Hill and earned a win against Nyack by allowing six hits and one run in 7.0 innings. Struck out eight Warriors.
Rookie of the Week: Jeff Bohus, Philadelphia University (Fr., RHP, 6-1, Cherry Hill, N.J.) - Threw a gem against Kutztown last week, allowing only two hits in 7.1 innings of work. Did not walk a batter and fanned four.
April 26
Player of the Week: Bryan Henry, Chestnut Hill (Jr., C, 6-3, Columbus, N.J.) - Hit .483 in seven games last week with eight runs batted in, six runs scored, six doubles, one triple and one home run. Went 6-for-6 with three runs and four RBI in a victory at Nyack and went 4-for-4 with a pair or runs and three RBI in a win over USP.
Pitcher of the Week: Joe Harris, Wilmington University (Jr., LHP, 6-3, Douglassville, Pa.) - Collected a win and a save last week for the Wildcats. Hurled a complete game against Chestnut Hill and allowed only five hits and one earned run while striking out nine. Later in the week, he saved a game at Concordia by fanning the only two batters he faced.
Rookie of the Week: Bob Hopkins, Chestnut Hill (Fr., RHP, 5-9, Philadelphia, Pa.) - Went 1-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average in two relief appearances last week. Earned a win against Nyack, going 4.1 innings and allowed five hits and fanning four. Followed with a perfect two innings in a victory versus USP.
May 4
Player of the Week: Anthony DiFrancesco, Philadelphia University (Jr., 3B, Landenberg, Pa.) - Led Philadelphia to a 4-0 week by hitting .436 with eight runs batted in, six runs scored and one home run. Went 3-for-6 with four runs and five RBI in a game 2 win over Nyack. Collected three hits in a game 2 win over USP.
Pitcher of the Week: Tim McCarthy, Post University (Sr., LHP, 5-10, Waterbury, Conn.) - Went 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA in two appearances last week. Allowed one earned run in a complete game victory over Chestnut Hill, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Rookie of the Week: Anthony Pisano, Concordia College (Fr., LHP, 6-0, Bardonia, N.Y.) - Went 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA last week and helped the Clippers gain a home game in the first round of the CACC Tournament with a win against Bloomfield. Against the Deacons, he went the distance and allowed only five hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.
May 10
Player of the Week: Mario Lopez, Dominican College (Jr., 2B, Anthony, New Mexico) - Named MVP of the CACC Tournament after helping lead the Chargers to the title with a win over Post. Hit .380 for the tournament and recorded at least one hit in all four games, including a 4-for-5, two-run, one-RBI performance in a win over Post on Friday to put the Chargers into the championship round.
Pitcher of the Week: Tom Sirois, Post University (Jr., RHP, Cheshire, Conn.) - Picked up two wins at the CACC Tournament and sported a 1.00 ERA. Threw a complete game shutout against Dominican in a 1-0 win that forced a second game on Saturday.
Rookie of the Week: Tony Blake, Dominican College (Fr., OF/DH, Windsor, Conn.) - Hit .375 in his first CACC Tournament appearance with five runs batted in and three runs scored. Collected three doubles and was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance.
