2009 Baseball Weekly Award Winners

March 3

Player of the Week: Mickey Zudonyi, Felician (So., 2B, Holmdel, NJ) -Hit .421 in a 2-2 week with five runs scored, four runs batted in, three doubles, one triple and five stolen bases. He went 4-for-7 with three runs and three RBI against Queens and added three doubles and three stolen bases against Mercy.

Pitcher of the Week: Jared Farbman, Philadelphia (So., RHP, 6-4, Philadelphia, PA) - Earned a season-opening win against Georgia College and State by not allowing a single hit in 6.0 innings of work while fanning eight batters.

Rookie of the Week: Chris Fogleman, Felician (Fr., 1B, 6-3, Waxhaw, NC) - Hit .333 in a 2-2 week with two runs batted in and one run scored. Went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a victory over Mercy. For the week, he had a .429 on-base percentage, and handled 28 chances without an error.

March 9

Player of the Week: Matt Umba, Wilmington (So., OF, 6-0, West Deptford, NJ) - Hit .438 in nine games with two home runs, three doubles, nine runs scored and nine runs batted in last week. He collected at least one hit in all nine games, including two hits in five contests. He homered and knocked in three runs at St. Thomas and had two hits, two runs and two RBI vs. Mercyhurst.

Co-Pitchers of the Week: Matthew Snyder, Bloomfield (Jr., 6-0, LHP, Bensalem, PA) and Albie Sanguiliano, Felician (Sr., RHP, 6-1, Flemington, NJ) - Snyder earned a victory over Saint Rose by allowing only one earned run on six hits in seven innings of work with three strikeouts.
Sanguiliano also picked up a win against Saint Rose by taking a shutout into the ninth inning of an eventual 7-3 win. In eight-plus innings, the senior right-hander allowed two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

Rookie of the Week: Victor Monteagudo, Felician (Fr., RHP, West Palm Beach, FL) - Picked up his first career victory with 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief against Concordia. He entered with two on and two out in the sixth inning, and recorded a strikeout to preserve a 3-3 tie. He then finished the contest, allowing one hit and striking out six batters.

March 16

Player of the Week: Cody Holliday, Wilmington (Sr., OF, 6-3, Havre de Grace, MD) - Hit .529 in a 4-0 week with four home runs, 15 RBI and nine runs scored. He smacked two homers in a game twice, against Shippensburg and Lincoln. He drove in seven runs in game two of a double-header against Lincoln and had four RBI against Shippensburg. He added a triple and a stolen base in Wilmington's conference-opening win against Philadelphia.

Pitcher of the Week: Jack Crawford, Dominican (So., LHP, 5-10, Montgomery, NY) - Hurled a nine-inning, one-hitter against Franklin Pierce in a 1-0 triumph. He walked just one batter and fanned five. Furthermore, he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the contest.

Rookie of the Week: Matt Cook, Caldwell (Fr., RHP, 6-3, Manalapan, NJ) - Tossed a three-hit shutout in his first collegiate start to lead the Cougars to a victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. He struck out seven and walked one in a seven-inning, complete-game effort.

March 23

Player and Pitcher of the Week: Phil Messerian, Nyack (Jr., RHP, Fairlawn, NJ) - Had a great week at the plate and on the mound. His best performance was against Bridgeport, as he almost single-handedly defeated the Purple Knights. He threw a complete game shutout in that contest and also provided the only run of the game with a solo home run in the 1-0 triumph. He struck out 10 batters and allowed only one walk and four hits. For the week, he hit .600 with two home runs, eight runs batted in, seven runs scored and two triples. He slugged .789 and had a .647 on-base percentage.

Rookie of the Week: Jonattan Fernandez, Bloomfield (Fr., Paterson, NJ) - Hit .500 for the week with a .538 on-base percentage and a .583 slugging percentage. Went 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases at C.W. Post and added a 2-for-3 performance with one run and one RBI at American International.

March 30

Player of the Week: Mike Knipe, Chestnut Hill (So., 6-2, 1B, Sellersville, PA) - Hit .409 with nine runs scored, seven runs batted in, one home run and seven stolen bases in as many attempts in a 5-2 week for the Griffins. Hit a homer and went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI against Philadelphia in the second game of a double-header, and went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases in the first of two contests at Felician.

Pitcher of the Week: Tim McCarthy, Post (Jr., LHP, 5-10 Waterbury, CT) - Recorded a 1-0 record with one save in two appearances last week for the Eagles. Did not allow an earned run in 12 1/3 innings of work to go with 13 strikeouts while allowing only nine hits. Hurled a complete game at Philadelphia with 10 strikeouts.

Rookie of the Week: Shane Junger, Felician (Fr., RHP, 6-1, Waretown, NJ) - Posted his first two career victories in a pair of relief appearances last week. Both were come-from-behind CACC victories for Felician. He struck out 10 batters in 6 1/3 innings of work for the week and allowed only three hits, one run and one walk.

April 6

Player of the Week: Marcos Torres, Felician (Jr., C, 6-1, Miami, FL) - Batted .533 (8-for-15) with two doubles, a home run and seven runs batted in during the Golden Falcons' 3-1 week. He had three hits in Thursday's win over Molloy, then went 5-for-8 in a doubleheader sweep of Post University. He slugged .867 and had a .611 on-base percentage for the week.

Pitcher of the Week: Robert Williams, Chestnut Hill (Jr., RHP, 6-2, Allentown, PA) - Hurled a 9-inning, complete game one- hitter against Philadelphia in a 1-0 victory for the Griffins. He fanned three batters in the triumph and walked four.

Rookie of the Week: Luke Peyton, USP (Fr., RHP, 6-2, Haddonfield, NJ) - Pitched a total of 9.2 innings in two relief appearances for the Devils and allowed no earned runs and only three hits along with 10 strikeouts. Earned a victory against Bloomfield after not allowing a hit and striking out two in 4.0 innings.

April 13

Player of the Week: Adric Saxon, Caldwell (Jr., OF, Coral Springs, FL) - Led the Cougars to a 3-0 week with a .417 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage, along with two home runs, seven runs batted in, three runs scored and one double. Smacked home runs against Felician and Queens, and drove in five runs in the win over Queens.

Pitcher of the Week: Kyle Noonan, Philadelphia (Sr., RHP, Morristown, NJ) - Took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before surrendering a hit against Wilmington last. He hurled a complete game 1-hitter in the 3-0 victory, while striking out four batters.

Rookie of the Week: Alex Latchum, Chestnut Hill (Fr., OF, 5-10, Warrington, PA) - Hit .833 in two games after going 5-for-6 with seven runs scored and four stolen bases in a double-header sweep over USP.

April 20

Player of the Week: Alex Del Valle, Felician (Jr., SS, 6-0, Miami, FL) - Hit .464 in a 4-2 week for the Golden Falcons with two home runs, four doubles, seven runs scored, six RBI, three stolen bases and a .821 slugging percentage. Collected at least one hit in every game, including a four-hit day at USP and three hits against Caldwell.

Pitcher of the Week: Brian Craig, Dominican (Sr., RHP, 6-0, Shenandoah, PA) - Went 1-0 on the week with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances. He allowed only one hit with 12 strikeouts in 7.0 innings in a victory over Post. Also threw an inning of relief against Philadelphia and did not allow a hit or walk.

Rookie of the Week: Justin Moore, Dominican (Fr., RHP, 6-2, Wantagh, NY) - Went 1-0 with two saves in three relief appearances last week. Allowed only one hit with two strikeouts. Picked up a win and a save against Philadelphia, and a save against STAC.

April 27

Player of the Week: Ray Keelan, Caldwell (Jr., OF, Barnegat, NJ) - Drove in 18 runs, scored 11 times, and hit .600 in a 5-1 week. Hit three home runs and four doubles and earned a 1.120 slugging percentage. Notched three hits in each of the last five games of the week.

Pitcher of the Week: Kevin Ernst, Felician (So., RHP, 6-5, Manalapan, NJ) - Went 1-0 with one save after not allowing a run in two appearances spanning nine innings. Went 7.2 innings and allowed only three hits in a win over Nyack.

Rookie of the Week: Alexi Colon, Dominican (Fr., OF, 5-8, Millville, NJ) - Hit .538 in a 3-0 week with 10 RBI, three home runs and four runs scored. Drove in four runs in both ends of a DH at Felician.

May 4

Player of the Week: Michael Munoz, Dominican (So., DH, Bronx, NY) - Led Dominican to a 7-1 week with a .480 batting average, 12 runs batted in, seven runs scored, three doubles and one home run. Drove in five runs along with a homer against USP and went 4-for-7 with four runs scored in a double-header against Caldwell.

Pitcher of the Week: Phil Messerian, Nyack (Jr., RHP, 6-2, Fair Lawn, NJ) - Helped Nyack gain a CACC Tournament berth by going 1-1 with two saves behind a 1.12 ERA last week. He struck out 16 batters in 16 innings with zero walks. Earned one win and two saves in a 3-game sweep over Post.

Rookie of the Week: Alexi Colon, Dominican (Fr., OF, 5-8, Millville, NJ) -  Hit .333 in a 7-1 week with 11 runs scored, eight RBI's, six doubles, two triples, one home run and two stolen bases. Went 4-for-4 with three runs and three doubles against Caldwell on April 28.

May 11

Player and Rookie of the Week: Mike Godwin, Wilmington (Fr., RHP/C, 6-0, Hockessin, DE) -Helped lead Wilmington to the CACC Tournament championship both at the plate and with his arm. He led the team in hitting for the tournament with a .500 batting average while driving in four runs, scoring twice and collecting two doubles. He also started on the mound in Wilmington's first tournament game and got a win against Bloomfield after pitching six innings and allowing zero earned runs while fanning four batters.

Pitcher of the Week: JT Gregory, Wilmington (Jr., SS/RP, Woodbridge, VA) - Saved two of Wilmington's three wins at the CACC Tournament. Got the Wildcats out of a jam in the eighth inning of the championship game against Dominican. Trailing 5-4, Dominican loaded the bases with one out before Gregory moved from his shortstop position to the pitching mound. Gregory struck out the next two batters, and worked the ninth inning, to seal the victory for Wilmington.
