NEW HAVEN, CT - Cody Holliday of Wilmington University and Sarah Beck of Dominican College earned Player of the Year honors today as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) released its 2009 baseball and softball All-Star teams. Furthermore, Georgian Court University's Diana Sansevera picked up softball Pitcher of the Year accolades and Rachel Ruch was named Rookie of the Year. The Coach of the Year awards went to Dominican's Rick Giannetti for baseball and Rocco Constantino of Bloomfield College for softball.
Holliday, who hails from Havre de Grace, MD, took home numerous awards for his performance during his senior season, including Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year and first team All-Region accolades from the ABCA and Daktronics. He was also named to the CACC All-Tournament team after leading the Wildcats to the CACC Championship.
Beck, a senior outfielder from Milton, NY, has earned numerous postseason honors for her performance in 2009. She was named the CACC Player of the Year, a second team All-America selection by Daktronics, and a first team All-Region pick by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Daktronics.
In addition to Holliday and Giannetti, other All-Star picks by the ECAC include Post University senior 3B Corey Huffine and Caldwell College junior outfielder Ray Keelan. Giannetti has now earned CACC, ABCA and ECAC Coach of the Year accolades.
The CACC swept the ECAC softball special awards (Player, Pitcher, Rookie, Coach of the Year) and also had six players earn All-Star status in Dominican sophomore catcher Nicole Scarillo, GCU sophomore 3B Courtney Cuevas and senior outfielder Mallory Kirchner, along with Beck, Sansevera and Ruch.
Sansevera was previously named the CACC Pitcher of the Year, the Daktronics East Region Pitcher of the Year, and was a second team All-America selection by the NFCA. She was also a first team All-Region honoree by Daktronics and the NFCA and was named the CACC Tournament MVP after leading the Lions to the conference championship.
