NEW HAVEN, CT - Tommy Murphy of Caldwell College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 6. Fellow Cougar Stephen Pfeil garnered Pitcher of the Week honors, while Dominican College infielder Jonathan Ryan was the choice for Rookie of the Week.

Murphy, a 6-1 senior shortstop from Monroe, NY, hit .455 with a .556 on-base percentage in helping Caldwell to a 6-1 week. He belted one home run, stole one base, scored five times and drove in two runs for the week. He went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in game two of a double-header at Chestnut Hill. He also notched two hits in three straight games, against Nyack, Dominican and the first game against Chestnut Hill.

Tommy Murphy hit .455 in seven games last week

Pfeil, a 6-2 right-hander from Hampstead, NH, earned two complete game victories last week against Nyack and Post. He allowed only eight total hits and one earned run while fanning 19 batters in 14.0 innings of work. He threw a 7-inning one-hitter at Nyack with 11 strikeouts.

Ryan, a 6-0 freshman infielder from Troy, NY, hit .500 in four games with one home run, three RBI and two runs scored. He recorded a hit in all four games. He went 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI and a home run in a victory over Bloomfield.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars extended their winning streak to seven games before losing to Post in the second game of their doubleheader on Sunday. Caldwell picked up doubleheader sweeps at Nyack and Chestnut Hill, while beating Dominican in a single game. The 6-1 week, all against CACC competition, gives the Cougars a conference-leading 8-3 record. Junior pitcher Stephen Pfeil followed up a one-hitter against Nyack with a complete-game effort in a 7-1 victory over Post. Excluding his first start of the season against nationally-ranked West Chester, Pfeil has allowed just two earned runs in his last 36 innings pitched for an earned run average of 0.50.

Post - The Eagles went 2-2 last week. Senior Eric Rovinetti led the Eagles at the plate, going 5-for-11 with five runs scored, a triple, a double, and two runs batted in. He also had a .727 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. Rovinetti enters this week riding a 10-game hitting streak, as since March 12, he has gone 13-of-28 (.464) with 10 runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and a triple. In three games off the bench, junior Johnny Figueroa went 3-for-6 (.500), with a homerun, a double, and four RBI. Sophomore Tim McCarthy made three appearances out of the bullpen last week, and despite getting tagged with the loss at Philadelphia, he pitched 6.1 innings in the week, recording eight strikeouts. Sophomore Michael Wolfe won his third game of the season over Caldwell. For the season, Wolfe is 3-1 with a 2.95 ERA, to lead the team. Post won its first CACC series, taking 2-of-3 from Caldwell. Post is 5-5 in wood-bat games this season.

USP - USP's seven wins and three conference wins both better last season's totals of five and two. The Devils advanced to the championship games of the Philadelphia-area Bill Giles Invitational for the first time since 2004 and will play at Citizen's Bank Park (the home of the Philadelphia Phillies) this week against West Chester University (ranked #6 nationally). USP's win over Wilmington was just its second win over the Wildcats in the last 10 meetings and fourth in the last 23 going back to 1998.
