NEW HAVEN, CT - Vinnie DiBenedetti of Felician College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 27. Michael Mondesir of Dominican College was selected Pitcher of the Week, while fellow Charger Jonathan Ryan was the choice for Rookie of the Week.

DiBenedetti, a junior center fielder from Forked River, NJ, hit .500 in seven games with six RBI, four runs scored, three triples and one stolen base last week. He recorded multiple hits in five of the seven games, including two, 3-hit contests. He went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI in a win over Post. He also had three hits in a win over Bloomfield and went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI at Philadelphia.

Mondesir, a 6-3 senior right-hander from Jamaica, NY, hurled a 1-hit shutout on the road against first-place Wilmington on Saturday. He fanned seven batters in the 5-0 victory.

Ryan, a freshman infielder from Troy, NY, hit .533 with eight RBI, three runs scored and a .579 on-base percentage in five games last week. He collected two hits in all three games against Wilmington and drove in three runs in each of the final two, both of which were victories.

Honorable Mention

Phil Messerian, Nyack (So., RHP, Fairlawn, NJ) - Went 1-1 with a save last week with a 1.41 ERA.

Brian Testa, Wilmington (Sr., Util, Wilmington, DE) - Hit .400 with two homers, eight RBI and eight runs in 10 games.

Ray Keelan, Caldwell (So., OF, Barnegat, NJ) - Hit .391 in five games with two homers, five RBI and five runs scored.

Al Jardine, Felician (So., LHP, Neptune, NJ) - Went 1-0 in two appearances with a 0.77 ERA and five strikeouts.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars went 4-1 last week, including a pair of wins over USP in a CACC doubleheader on Apr. 26. The sweep gave Caldwell its sixth series win in the conference, having taken three-game series from Chestnut Hill, Dominican, Felician, Nyack and Wilmington earlier in the season. This week the Cougars wrap up conference play with three games against Bloomfield. Caldwell was ranked fifth in last week's NCAA Northeast Region poll.

Felician - Felician gave up 11 unearned runs in losing two out of three to Philadelphia over the weekend. The Golden Falcons fell percentage points behind Dominican to fifth place in the CACC, with four league games remaining. Felician plays the Chargers on Tuesday at 3:30. Saturday's split at Philadelphia ended a stretch of 21 games in 19 days for the Golden Falcons, in which they went 13-8. Of the 21, 19 were league games and 14 were on the road. FC has hosted contests at three different parks this season: Kennedy Park in Lodi (2G), Breslin Field in Lyndhurst (8G) and Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island (2G). That total does not include three occasions in which Felician batted last in a road game. The team is hitting .326 in its last 17 games, as compared to .236 in its first 25. On Sunday, April 27, Felician assistant coach Steve Langan married Nicole Algieri, the sister of senior IF Joey Algieri.

Nyack - The Warrior baseball team maintained their national No. 13 ranking in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) last week. After a 3-2 record for the week of 4/14, Nyack has been able to remain in the No. 13 spot they have held for the past three weeks. Warrior first baseman Cody Levins is second in the nation in batting (.480) and third in slugging percentage (.760). Those numbers are even more impressive given that the Warriors are the only NCCAA team who play in a wood bat-only conference. Warrior pitcher, Phil Messerian, is 6th in the nation in ERA (1.80) and third in strikeouts per 9 innings (10.29). The Warriors have been invited to participate in the NCCAA East Regional in May.

USP - With the Devils win against Bloomfield this week, USP has doubled both their overall and CACC win totals from last year and now have ten and six respectively. Michael Curry extended his USP single-season record for hits with two this week to bring his total to 49. Curry has hit safely now in 26 of the last 30 games, including a school record 17 straight. He currently has a four game hitting streak. Curry has also reached base in 30 consecutive games - a school record and has been on base in 39 of the Devils 40 games this year.
