CACC Notes
Caldwell - The Cougars began CACC play last week with a 2-2 record, losing to Post on Tuesday, beating Felician on Thursday and splitting a doubleheader with Felician on Saturday. Caldwell's starting pitchers had a solid week, posting an earned run average of 1.73 with 44 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings. Junior Stephen Pfeil fanned a career-high 11 batters in a 7-1 win over Felician. Senior Tommy Murphy tied his career best in strikeouts with 13 in a 9-0 victory at Felician on Mar. 29. Junior Eric Hines pitched a 10-inning gem, allowing seven hits and one run in a 2-1 triumph at regionally-ranked Adelphi on Mar. 28. Murphy stole home in the top of the 10th for the game-winning run.
Felician- Junior IF Dave Schoer recorded his 100th career base hit during last Tuesday's victory at Queens. Felician's 9-0 setback in Game 2 versus Caldwell on Saturday was its first loss by shutout since last April 1 in Game 1 at Franklin Pierce, also 9-0. Its last nine-inning shutout loss remains March 11, 2007, at Barry, by a 10-0 count. Four of the Golden Falcons' eight pitching victories this season, including both last week, have been by relievers.
Post - Post went 2-1 last week after beating Caldwell 3-0, behind a four-hit shutout from Brendan Wyman; it was the second complete-game shutout of his career. Post also slugged its way past Albertus Magnus 17-4, behind home runs from juniors Corey Huffine, Jim Conto, and Donnie Dlabola. Sophomore Michael Wolfe picked up the victory, tossing five innings of scoreless baseball. The Eagles pounded out 18 hits, which was the fourth game this season that they have recorded 10 or more hits in a contest. Post's lone loss of the week came to Dominican, 8-7. The Chargers jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but the Eagles rallied to tie it a 7-7, but Dominican pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth to take the contest. The Eagles are slated to play seven games over the next week, as they will host Felician on Tuesday in a CACC contest, then host AIC on Wednesday before traveling to Philadelphia on Friday. The next day, Philadelphia completes the home-and-home series with a doubleheader at Municipal Stadium. The week will conclude on Sunday with a doubleheader at Caldwell.
