NEW HAVEN, CT - Philip Maher of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, March 9. Nick Riker of Felician College was chosen Pitcher of the Week and USP pitcher Tim Summers claimed Rookie of the Week honors.

Maher, a 6-4 senior outfielder from Norristown, PA, hit .333 in six games with six runs batted in, two runs scored and four doubles. He collected at least one hit in all six games. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in a 4-3 win over Stonehill and drove in two runs against Kentucky Wesleyan.

Riker, a 6-2 senior right-hander from Highlands, NJ, allowed only two runs in 6.2 innings against Pace University. He allowed seven hits and fanned two. He left the game with a 3-2 lead.

Summers, a 6-2 freshman right-hander from Monrovia, MD, picked up his second collegiate victory last week, throwing four perfect innings of relief in a comeback win over Stonehill.

Honorable Mention

Alex Munoz, Bloomfield (Sr., 5-5, OF, Perth Amboy, NJ) - Hit .450 with three doubles, one triple, four runs scored and one RBI in six games.

Chris Flynn, Felician (GR, 1B, 6-0, Keyport, NJ) - Hit .429 with one home run, one double, three RBI and one run scored in three contests.

Corey Huffine, Post (Jr., SS, Colorado Springs, CO) - Collected four hits in 10 at-bats for the week with three runs and one RBI.

CACC Notes

Chestnut Hill - Freshman Mike Knipe hit the first homerun in program history in the eighth inning versus SUNY Purchase (3-run shot to left center).

Felician- After beginning the week ranked No. 10 in the March 3 Northeast Regional writers poll, Felician lost three games to fellow members of the top 10. The Golden Falcons were held without a homerun for the season's first seven games before belting three in a 15-5 home loss to regional No. 2 Bryant. All three came against 2007 third-team all-American Eric Loh, including a three-run shot by freshman SS Hector Bello in the seventh for Bello's first career homer. Graduate C/1B Chris Flynn, who also homered off of Loh, has a team-high seven RBI for the season on just five base hits.

Philadelphia - Head Coach Mark Heineman's team opened the 2008 season by hosting second-ranked Franklin Pierce University on March 9th, falling in doubleheader to the Ravens by scores of 5-2 in nine innings and 9-1.

USP - USP's 4-6 start is their best 10-game record to start the season since the 2004 campaign. Phil Maher currently sports a six game hitting streak.
