FELICIAN'S QUINTANA NAMED CACC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK; HINES NAMED PITCHER OF WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Senior 1B Frank Quintana of Felician College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week as the first weekly awards of the season were announced today. Sophomore RHP Eric Hines of Caldwell College is the Pitcher of the Week and freshman outfielder Adric Saxon of Caldwell has been selected as the Rookie of the Week.

Quintana, a 6-1 1B from Miami, FL, hit .562 in a 3-1 week, belted three home runs, drove in 10 runs and scored six times. He had a slugging percentage of 1.312 and went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs and four RBI in an 11-10 win over Queens. He also went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and one run scored in a 13-5 win over Molloy. He also stole four bases during the week, including two against Mercy in a 12-9 win.

Hines, a 6-2 righty from Milltown, NJ, earned a win over Dowling by hurling 8.0 innings and allowing only two hits, no earned runs and fanning four. Dowling scored two unearned runs in the game.

Saxon, a 6-1 outfielder from Coral Springs, FL, hit .619 in his first collegiate action in helping the Cougars to a 4-0 start. He hit one home run, collected nine RBI and scored 10 times. Saxon went 5-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBI in a 22-9 season-opening win over Molloy and added four hits and two runs scored against Dowling.

Honorable Mention

Kevin Lauranzon, So., 1B, Bloomfield - Hit .533 in a 2-2 week with five runs scored and four RBI.

Joseph O'Donnell, Sr., LHP, Bloomfield - Went 7.0 innings and allowed three hits and one run in a win over Dowling.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars opened the 2007 season with four region wins at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. In defeating Molloy, Dowling, Mercy and Queens, Caldwell averaged 15 hits per game and out-scored its opponents 50-24. Freshmen outfielders Adric Saxon and Raymond Keelan led the way offensively, with Saxon batting .619 with 10 runs and nine RBIs and Keelan hitting .545 with two homers and five RBIs. Caldwell's first win of the season marked the 200th victory in the 11+ years of baseball at Caldwell College. Now in its 12th season, the Cougars' baseball program has recorded an all-time record of 203-191. Head coach Chris Reardon, who begins his seventh season at Caldwell, has a record of 121-107.

Felician - Senior 1B Frank Quintana became the first player in program history to reach 20 career homeruns, hitting his 20th in a Feb. 18 non-league loss to Bloomfield. Sophomore OF Vinnie DiBenedetti's first career grand slam was a ninth-inning tiebreaker and eventual game-winner against Bluefield State on Feb. 17. It was also his first collegiate multi-homer game, as he led off the contest with a round-tripper. Felician is averaging 8.6 runs and 11.4 hits per game on the young season, hitting .321.

Post - Post opened the 2007 season winning two out of three games at Virginia State University. The Eagles took a doubleheader sweep on Saturday winning by 4-3 and 13-5 counts. VSU won the series finale 8-7, after coming back from a 7-4 deficit. In the first game of the series the Eagles scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, after trailing 3-2, to win. Eric Rovinetti and Ryan DePolo each had a pair of hits and Curtis Anthony picked up the win in relief. In the nightcap seven hitters had multi-hit games for the Eagles, led by Chris Gelalich, who was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. In the third game of the series on Sunday, Matt Dimaina led the Eagles at the plate, hitting 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Rovinetti had a pair of hits and a run scored.
