DOMINICAN COLLEGE IS TOP PICK IN CACC PRESEASON BASEBALL POLL

February 13, 2007

NEW HAVEN, CT - Dominican College is the preseason favorite to win the 2007 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular-season baseball championship, according to a poll conducted by the league's nine head coaches. The Chargers were picked first in eight of the nine polls and finished with 80 total points. Felician College received the remaining first-place vote.

The Chargers won the CACC regular-season and tournament championships last year before advancing to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament. They won two games at the tournament before being eliminated and finished the season 42-18 overall and 23-4 in the CACC. The squad returns 2006 CACC Rookie of the Year, sophomore infielder Jose Made.

Wilmington College was picked second in the poll with 69 points after going 30-21 overall and finishing second in the CACC with a 21-6 record. The Wildcats return the 2006 CACC Pitcher of the Year, senior Kenny McGrady.

Felician picked up one first-place nod and 66 points to take the third spot in the poll after finishing 2006 with a 29-27 overall record and a 15-12 mark in the CACC. The Golden Falcons advanced to the finals of the CACC Tournament before falling to Dominican.

Bloomfield and Caldwell rounded out the top five, as determined by the coaches. Bloomfield received 51 points and Caldwell earned 45. The Deacons went 26-27 last season and 17-10 in the CACC, while the Cougars went 18-25 overall and 11-14 in conference play. Philadelphia was picked sixth after going 11-34 last season and 8-19 in its first season as a member of the CACC. Nyack, USP and Post conclude the poll.

The conference tournament will be hosted by Wilmington College for the third consecutive year on May 10-12, 2007. Dominican will be looking to win its third consecutive tournament championship.
