FELICIAN'S QUINTANA NAMED DAKTRONICS NORTHEAST REGION BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NEW HAVEN, CT - Senior first baseman Frank Quintana of the Felician College baseball team has been named the Daktronics Division II Northeast Region Player of the Year in an announcement made Wednesday afternoon. Eight players from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schools were named All-Region, including three on the first team. The Daktronics All-Region team was voted upon by Sports Information Directors throughout the region.
Quintana, the 2007 CACC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, helped lead Felician to the CACC Tournament with a 10-6 conference record to go with a 23-26 overall mark. A native of Miami, FL, Quintana finished the season hitting .405 with 77 hits and 59 RBI. His 77 hits include 36 extra-base hits and 16 home runs. He is ranked tenth nationally in home runs, 13th in home runs per-game and slugging, and 22nd in RBI's per-game. He led the CACC in on-base percentage (.504), runs scored (59), hits (77), doubles (19) and was second in batting average and home runs.
Wilmington College, the CACC Tournament Champion, featured two players on the first team in junior right-hander Joe Matterer and senior outfielder Jason Rust.
Matterer, the MVP of the CACC Tournament, finished the season 12-1 on the mound with a 3.12 ERA. Matterer, a native of Newark, DE, has worked 69.1 innings this season and allowed 67 hits and fanned 35 while walking only 18.
Rust, who hails from Greenwood, DE, led the CACC in home runs and RBI this season with 21 and 62, respectively. He hit .369 for the season along with a league-leading .815 slugging percentage. He blasted two home runs in three games in leading the Wildcats to the CACC Tournament Championship.
Second team selections from the CACC include junior utility player Brian Testa of Wilmington, starting pitchers Robert Casal of Caldwell College and Billy Gleason of Nyack College, Dominican College sophomore shortstop Jose Made and Caldwell freshman outfielder, Adric Saxon.
Testa, who hails from Wilmington, DE, owns a .318 batting average with seven home runs and 45 RBI in 44 games played. He also recorded 14 doubles and stole seven bases. He was a first team All-CACC pick.
Casal, a freshman righty from Howard Beach, NY, went 9-1 on the mound with a 3.66 ERA in his first collegiate season. He was named to the All-CACC first team after fanning 65 batters in 66.1 innings pitched.
Gleason, a senior from Hollywood, FL, was named CACC Pitcher of the Year after going 5-3 this season, including 5-1 with a 3.93 ERA in CACC games. He led the conference in strikeouts with 70 in 69.2 innings pitched.
Made, who is from Binghamton, NY, hit .338 for the season with 38 RBI, four home runs, three triples, 10 doubles and 11 stolen bases. He was a first-team All-CACC selection.
Saxon was the choice for CACC Rookie of the Year after batting .373 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI, 11 doubles and 42 runs scored. Saxon, who hails from Coral Springs, FL, ranked second in the CACC in RBI, third in home runs and fourth in slugging percentage (.708).
