MATTERER NAMED CACC BASEBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK

NEW HAVEN, CT - Wilmington College right-hander Joe Matterer has been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week after being named the CACC Tournament MVP on Saturday. Adric Saxon of Caldwell College has earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Matterer, a 6-0 junior from Dover, DE, helped lead Wilmington to the 2007 CACC Tournament Championship by hurling a complete-game shutout against Dominican on Friday afternoon. He scattered four hits, walked two and fanned five in the 1-0 victory.

Saxon, a 6-1 freshman outfielder from Coral Springs, FL, hit .533 with seven RBI and five runs scored at the CACC Tournament. He recorded one triple and two doubles. He went 3-for-4 with five RBI against Dominican on Thursday and also went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the championship game against Wilmington.

Honorable Mention

Jason Rust, Wilmington - Hit .500 at the CACC Tournament with two home runs, a double, four RBI and three runs scored.

Dave Schoer, Felician - Went 8-for-12 (.667) with five doubles and five runs scored in three games. Slugged 1.083 and had a .692 on-base percentage.

Joe Catanese, Dominican - Suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Wilmington despite hurling a complete game and allowing only five hits and fanning seven.
