NEW HAVEN, CT - Seniors Frank Quintana of Felician College and Jason Rust of Wilmington College have been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Co-Players of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 29. Dominican College right-hander Matt Dilgen has earned Pitcher of the Week honors while Omar Velazquez of Caldwell College got the nod for Rookie of the Week.

Quintana, a 6-1 senior infielder from Miami, FL and Rust, a senior outfielder from Greenwood, DE posted nearly identical stats last week. Both recorded three home runs with six RBI and seven runs scored in five games played. Rust hit .529 for the week with one double and Quintana hit .429 with two stolen bases. Both led their teams to 3-2 weeks.

Dilgen, a junior right-hander from Staten Island, NY, picked up two wins as a starter last week against Post and Bryant. He hurled 15 total innings and allowed only 12 hits and one run (0.60 ERA) to go with 12 strikeouts. He went 7.2 innings against Post and did not allow a run while fanning eight.

Velazquez, a 6-1 freshman pitcher/outfilder from Astoria, NY, earned two wins on the mound and also hit .296 at the plate with one home run, five RBI and seven runs scored. He picked up wins against Felician and Dominican while allowing five runs and fanning 12 in 11.0 innings of work.

Honorable Mention

Billy Gleason, Nyack - Hurled a one-hitter against Dominican in defeating the Chargers for the second time this season.

Joe Matterer, Wilmington - Picked up two wins last week against USP and Post. Allowed only four hits and zero runs in 8.1 innings.

CACC Notes

Caldwell - The Cougars were ranked third in the Northeast Region Poll released by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee on Apr. 25. They also were eighth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Northeast Region Poll. The Cougars continue to lead the nation in runs per game (10.7) as of Apr. 22. Caldwell also ranked first nationally in doubles per game (3.0) and second in home runs per game (1.57). Freshman Adric Saxon also ranked first nationally in runs batted in per game (1.72), and was eighth in home runs per game (0.4) and 14th in runs per game (1.32). Freshman Omar Velazquez ranked fifth in runs per game (1.4). After hitting four homers in an 11-4 non-conference win over Dominican Sunday, the Cougars have 42 home runs on the season.

Felician - With three homeruns on the week, senior 1B Frank Quintana set a single-season school record with 12 homers, breaking his own mark from 2005. Quintana has 31 career homers. With two outs and no one on, Felician put its next 11 runners on base in the fifth inning of its conference game at first-place Caldwell on April 23. The nine-run inning keyed a comeback from a 7-0 deficit in a 15-11 victory. In Game 2 of the twinbill, a non-league game, the Golden Falcons broke the school record for team homeruns. Freshman reserve OF Mike Urciuoli hit the record-breaking 36th and the first of his career. Freshman left-handers Danny Conti and John Calise eached picked up their first career victories during the week, Calise in relief at C.W. Post. Sophomore 3B Dave Schoer is riding a 13-game hitting streak, a team season long. The Golden Falcons were 3-0 in extra innings in 2007 before falling to Division-I NJIT in 10 on Sunday.
