HECK TABBED PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER BASEBALL ACADEMIC ALL-AREA PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

May 29, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Keith Heck of Philadelphia University has been honored as the 2007 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Baseball Performer of the Year in voting conducted by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Michael DeVincenzo of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia was also named to the team. A total of 10 student-athletes were selected.

Heck, a senior first baseman from Cherry Hill, NJ, led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in batting average with a .407 clip. In starting all 35 of his team's games, Heck belted 11 home runs and knocked in 45 runs while scoring 34 times. He also ranked third in the CACC in slugging percentage (.711) and fourth in on-base percentage (.481) and home runs. He was a second team All-CACC selection.

DeVincenzo, who also earned a spot on the Academic All-Area team last year, played in all 30 of USP's games this season, starting 29. DeVincenzo, a senior from Plain, PA, was fourth on the team with 24 hits and 12 runs scored. The infielder/pitcher closed out his career hitting .254 in a school record 134 games. One of just nine players in school history to record 100 career hits, DeVincenzo ranks seventh on the Devils all-time hits list with 111 and fifth on the all-time doubles list with 27. DeVincenzo has been on the Dean's List every semester and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
