MURPHY, PFEIL, RECEIVE NJCBA BASEBALL WEEKLY HONORS

April 18, 2006

NEW HAVEN, CT - Caldwell College pitchers Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) and Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) were chosen the Pitcher of the Week and the Rookie Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association for the week ending Apr. 16, the organization announced today. This is the second NJCBA honor for Pfeil this season, while Murphy was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Murphy, a sophomore, turned in an outstanding effort in a 9-0 win over Nyack on Apr. 12, tossing a two-hit shutout while striking out a career-high 13 batters and walking only two in 7.0 innings. The win was Murphy's first shutout of the season, giving him a 4-1 record on the year. Murphy also contributed at the plate last week, batting .316 (6-for-19) in four games.

Pfeil earned his second NJCBA Rookie of the Week accolades after allowing one run and five hits in a seven-inning, complete-game, 4-1 victory over Nyack. The freshman struck out six and walked none to improve to 2-3 while leading the Cougars to their fourth-straight win.

The Cougars (13-17 overall, 6-7 CACC) will play conference foe N.J.I.T. in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Apr. 19. The first game begins at 4:00 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium in Newark, N.J.
