CALDWELL'S PFEIL AND NJIT'S BINKIEWICZ EARN NJCBA WEEKLY HONORS

NEW HAVEN, CT - Caldwell College freshman pitcher Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) and NJIT freshman Craig Binkiewicz were honored by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) this week. Pfeil was selected as the Division II/III Rookie Pitcher of the Week and Binkiewics was named the Rookie Player of the Week for the week ending April 2.

In a 5-1 victory over Philadelphia University on March 31, Pfeil allowed one run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings to earn his first win as a collegian. He also pitched four innings of scoreless relief in an 11-4 win at Molloy College, giving up four hits while striking out three. For the week, Pfeil faced 46 batters without allowing a walk.

Pfeil becomes the second Caldwell College freshman to be honored by the NJCBA, as outfielder Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) was chosen the Rookie of the Week on March 28.

Binkiewicz wins the Rookie Player of the Week award for the second time this season after batting .455 (5-for-11) with three runs, two steals, and a triple for the Highlanders. In a 5-4 win over C.W. Post on March 28, he was 3-for-4 with two runs and a triple. He added a 2-for-4 effort in a 9-6 loss to Caldwell and scored once in a 7-4 victory against Dominican. He owned a .467 on-base and .636 slugging percentage for the week.
