DOMINICAN'S GIANNETTI CAPTURES HIS 500TH WIN IN SPLIT WITH FISHER COLLEGE

NEW HAVEN, CT - Dominican College baseball coach Rick Giannetti captured his 500th career win in a double header split with Fisher College this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park. The Chargers took the first game 5-4, while the Falcons rallied for a for an 8-7 victory in the night cap.
In game one, Dominican jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off the RBI ground out to the shortstop by Keith Gebert (Brooklyn, NY), scoring Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) who had singled to start the game, advanced to second on a balk and moved to third on a ground out to second by senior Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY).
DC added on three more runs in the second after designated hitter Chad Duesler (Northville, NY) led off the inning with a triple and scored on the RBI single to left by Tom Keegan (Dickinson City, PA). After stealing second, Keegan came around to score on another RBI single to right field by shortstop Jose Made (Binghamton, NY). Two batters later, Gebert hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Made as the Chargers took a 4-0 lead.
The Falcons answered back with a run in the fourth as Luis Lara (Lawrence, MA) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Anthony Perry (Andover, MA) who had singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on an error. Dominican countered with another in the bottom of the inning as Zani got a two out double to left field and scored on an RBI single by Nunez to take a 5-1 lead.
FC added another run in the top of the fifth as Carlos Alvarado (Roslindale, MA) led off the inning with a single and later scored as Thomas Englehardt (Bradford, MA) reached base on a Dominican error to make the score 5-2. They added on two more runs in the sixth as Kenny Rivera (Hyde Park, MA) reached on an error and moved to third on a double by Jose Reyes (Bronx, NY). Two RBI ground outs by Axel Flecha (Haverhill, MA) and Alvarado cut the Charger lead to 5-4.
Nick Schreiber (Greencastle, PA) got the complete game win after getting the last two batters to pop up as the Chargers came away with the 5-4 victory.
In game two, Fisher scored a run in the top of the first as Wandy Rosario (Jamaica Plain, MA) led the game off with a walk and scored on the RBI single to center field by Lara for their first lead of the day, 1-0. The Chargers bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the second as Keegan, Joe Kubanik (Stony Point, NY) and Ralph Mesa (Miami, FL) all got free passes with one out. Made then delivered a single which scored Keegan and Kubanik as the Chargers went up 2-1. Catcher Frank Vella (Suffern, NY) followed with another RBI single as Mesa came around to score to give DC a 3-1 lead.
The Chargers added four more runs in the third as Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) led off the inning with a single to right, followed by a walk to Keegan. Kubanik had a 2 RBI single to center, scoring Escalera and Keegan and then advanced to third on a Fisher error. Made then had another RBI single as Kubanik scored to put the Chargers up 6-1. Made then scored on a two out RBI single to right by Zani for the 7-1 DC lead.
The Falcons tacked on a three runs in the sixth as Jeremy Marion (Pelham, NH) got a one out double to left field and came around to score on the single to center by Ken Olisky (Georgetown, MA). After a two out walk to Perry, a Dominican error caused both Olisky and Perry to score to cut the lead to 7-4.
Fisher rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs Luis Blanco (Hyde Park, MA) and Alvarado got back to back singles, followed by a two run triple by Marion. Marion scored on a DC error to tie the game at 7-7.
FC took the lead, 8-7, in the top of the eighth after Flecha got a one out double to right and scored as the next batter Dan Gibson (Mystic, CT) hit a double to left field. Pitcher Derek Demko (Stoughton, MA) got the win.
