Player and Pitcher of the WeekMarch 21, 2005 PLAYER OF THE WEEK HASANI WHITFIELD, CALDWELL (Sr, OF, 6-2, 205, Briarwood,
N.Y.) Hit .529 and slugged 1.118 in a 3-2 week for
the Cougars. In five games, had two doubles, a triple, two
homeruns, scored eight runs and drove in seven. Is riding an
eight-game hitting streak. PITCHER OF THE WEEK TOMMY MURPHY, CALDWELL (Fr, R, 6-0, 175, Monroe, N.Y.) In his first collegiate start, hurled a one-hit shutout
in Game 2 of a doubleheader against Queens, striking out five and
walking two. On the week, was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two
appearances, allowing three hits in 10 innings with seven
strikeouts. HONOR ROLL LINO MARIOT, BLOOMFIELD (Jr, SS, 6-3, 185,
Perth Amboy,
N.J.) Batted .538 (7 for
13) with a .705 on-base percentage in the Deacons’ 1-2 week.
Scored three runs and stole six bases. March 28, 2005 CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK MIKE ROOTH, FELICIAN (Jr, C, Bayville, N.J.) Drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning of Saturday’s Game 2 conference win over Bloomfield. Had two of his team’s six hits, including a double, off of Pitcher of the Week Chris Legiadre on Tuesday. CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK CHRIS LEGIADRE, NJIT (Jr, R, 6-0, 205, Manalapan, N.J.) Earned a nine-inning complete game road victory over Felician in the Highlanders’ conference opener on Tuesday. Allowed three runs on six hits, struck out a career-high 13 batters and walked none. Retired the first 11 batters he faced. HONOR ROLL April 4, 2005 CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK MIKE TURNER, NJIT (Fr, 3B, 6-1, 170, Whitehouse Station, N.J.) Drove in five of the Highlanders’ seven runs during a 2-1 week, all against conference opponents. Went 4 for 9 with his first career homerun and slugged .778. Drove in all three runs of a 3-2 victory over Post on Friday. CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK DEREK YORK, CALDWELL (Jr, R, 6-2, 175, Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) Tossed a nine-inning, four-hit shutout in a conference victory over Felician on Thursday, with eight strikeouts. Threw back-to-back shutouts against conference opponents – a six-hitter in Game 1 against Caldwell on April 4, and a five-hitter in Game 1 at Nyack on Saturday. action of the week. Struck out six and walked two. April 18, 2005 CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK BILLY RYAN, CALDWELL (So, 3B, 5-10, 195, Toms River, N.J.) Led Caldwell to a 5-1 week (5-0 in games he started) by going 10 for 16 (.625) at the plate and slugging .813. Hit .727 (8-11) with four runs scored and three runs batted in during a three-game sweep of Post. Scored the tying run in seventh inning of series’ final game. CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK JOE MATTERER, WILMINGTON (Fr, R, 5-11, 190, Newark, Del.) Tossed a seven-inning two-hitter in a 3-1 road win versus
first-place and regionally-ranked NJIT on Saturday, striking out
three batters while walking none. Also had one scoreless inning in
a loss to regionally-ranked West Chester. HONOR ROLL Struck out 15 batters and walked none and had a .103
opponent batting average in two appearances. Threw a seven-inning
three-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a win over Wilmington April 25, 2005 CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK ELIEZER NUNEZ, DOMINICAN (Jr, OF, 6-2, 200, Brooklyn, N.Y.) Batted .588 (10 for 17) with an on-base percentage of .720 in leading the Chargers to a 5-0 week, including 4-0 in conference games. Scored eight runs, drove in six, and stole eight bases. Had three three-hit games. CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK ERIC HINES, CALDWELL (Fr, R, 6-1, 175, Milltown, N.J.) In his only action of the week, carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Sunday’s victory over Wilmington before settling for a one-hit shutout in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Struck out six and walked one. HONOR ROLL KWESI MITCHELL, NJIT (Jr, RF, 6-0, 225, Piscataway, N.J.) Hit .563 (9 for 16) with three doubles and a triple in a 3-1 week for the Highlanders, including his 100th career hit. Went 7-11 in a three-game sweep of USP. BRYAN FITZGERALD, WILMINGTON (Sr, OF, 6-0, 180, Newark, Del.) Hit .500 (14 for 28) in a 4-3 week for the Wildcats. Had five multiple-hit games, scored eight runs and drove in nine. KYLE BEARD, FELICIAN (P, Miramar, Fla.) Defeated regionally-ranked Stonehill, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings, in his only action. DOUG SMITH, USP (Sr, OF, 6-2, 180, Middletown, N.J.) Hit for the cycle, with three runs and three RBI, in a loss to Philadelphia. Hit .350 and slugged .800 despite an 0-5 week for the Devils. May 2, 2005 CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK ANDY CHUNN, CALDWELL (So, SS, 5-11, 190, Lewes, Del.) Went 8 for 12 with six runs scored and eight runs batted in in four games of the Cougars’ 4-1 week. Had a .765 on-base percentage. Had three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK MIKE KOLESAR, CALDWELL (Sr, R, 6-1, 183, New City, N.Y.) Allowed one run on five hits in a nine-inning complete-game victory over first-place NJIT on Thursday in his only action of the week. Struck out 13 batters and walked three. HONOR ROLL BRET URBAN, WILMINGTON (Jr, P, 5-10, 165, New Castle, Del.) Struck out 16 batters in a nine-inning complete game victory over Nyack. Allowed three earned runs on eight hits and walked two. BRYAN FITZGERALD, WILMINGTON (Sr, OF, 6-0, 180, Newark, Del.) Went 8 for 16 and slugged 1.000 in a 2-2 week for the Wildcats. Had five extra-base hits, including a homer, five runs and five RBI. JEFF HANCOCK, POST (Fr, P, 6-2, 175, Montville, Conn.) Earned his first career victory with a seven-inning complete game against Nyack. Allowed one earned run on seven hits, struck out eight and walked one. MIKE ZANI, DOMINICAN (Jr, IF/OF, 6-0, 175, Goshen, N.Y.) Leadoff man hit .389 with seven runs scored and four stolen bases in a 4-2 week for the Chargers. |
