DOMINICAN, WILMINGTON WIN FIRST ROUND CACC GAMES

NEW CASTLE, Del. ? Dominican (N.Y.) College and tournament host Wilmington (Del.) College won first-round games of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball championship on Thursday at Wilson Field.
GAME 1: DOMINICAN (NY) 7, CALDWELL 5: Four errors by No. 3 seed Caldwell led to five unearned runs as Dominican triumphed in the day?s opener.
Dominican took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, aided by two bunt singles and two errors. The Cougars (22-19) pulled to within 3-2 on Hasani Whitfield?s (Jamaica, NY) run-scoring single in the top of the seventh, but the Chargers (23-19) broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, the final two scoring on a two-out fielding error.
Dominican?s Joe Catanese (Huntington, NY) (7-3) pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on nine hits in the win. Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) and Ed Dolan (Cliffside Park, NJ) each had two hits, including a double.
Eric Hines (Millstown, NJ) (6-3) worked 6 2/3 innings for the Cougars and was charged with all seven runs (two earned). Nick Mauro (Nutley, NJ) and Ryan McGee (Cedarhurst, NY) had three hits apiece.
GAME 2: WILMINGTON (DE) 7, NJIT 1: Wilmington (21-23-1) used a six-run second inning and a four-hitter by junior Bret Urban (Bear, DE) in its first-round victory over top-seeded New Jersey Institute of Technology in Thursday?s late game.
In the decisive second, the Wildcats touched NJIT starter Robert Forbes (West Caldwell, NJ) (5-3) for five hits. Steve Spiese (Newark, DE) opened the scoring with a two-run double, and five batters later, Bryan Fitzgerald (Wilmington, DE) highlighted the rally with a two-run triple.
Urban (4-3) needed 103 pitches for the complete game victory. He struck out 10 batters and walked none. Derek Pugh (New Castle, DE) was 3 for 3 with a solo homer and Fitzgerald finished 3 for 4 for Wilmington.
Dan Morogiello (Whitehouse Station, NJ) went 2 for 4, including an RBI single for the Highlanders (20-17). Forbes also pitched a complete game, yielding 11 hits and three walks while striking out 10.
