CACC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT BEGINS THURSDAYNJIT Earns Top Seed; Wilmington To HostMay 4, 2005NEWARK, N.J. – Wilmington (Del.) College will host the 2005 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball championship Thursday through Saturday at Wilson Field in New Castle, Del. The four-team, double-elimination tournament begins Thursday at 11 a.m. when No. 2 seed Dominican (N.Y.) College (22-19 overall, 16-8 CACC) faces No. 3 seed Caldwell College (22-18, 14-7). At 3 p.m., top seed New Jersey Institute of Technology (20-16, 18-6) takes on No. 4 Wilmington (20-23-1, 15-9). The complete schedule is listed below. Dominican is led by six all-conference players, including CACC co-Newcomer of the Year Joe Kubanik (.362, 1 HR, 36 RBI), the league leader in runs batted in. Caldwell features the 2005 conference Player of the Year in senior outfielder Hasani Whitfield (.366, 6 HR, 30 RBI) and co-Newcomer of the Year in pitcher Eric Hines (5-2, 2.74 ERA, 30 SO, 3 ShO). NJIT put three pitchers on the all-CACC first team, starters Robert Forbes (5-2, 2.89 ERA, 60 SO) and Chris Legiadre (6-2, 3.73, 55 SO) and reliever Pedro Rivera (1-0, 3.26, 4 saves). The host Wildcats have the league’s top two-way player in senior Pete Henyan (.363, 1 HR, 29 RBI; 6-1, 2.64, 77 SO), a two-time CACC Pitcher of the Year.
