WATERBURY, CT ? Wayne Mazzoni has resigned as Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Post University. Dan Mara, Associate Vice-President for Athletics and Fitness at Post, made the announcement Thursday.

?I am leaving on good terms with the school and I only wish the best for the school, the team and whoever takes over the program. ? Mazzoni said. ? I want to thank Dan Mara, Ed Lazarus (Senior Vice-President) and President Jon DeTemple for the opportunity to be a head coach for six years at Post University. I feel as if not only did I do a lot for the program and athletic department, I also learned a lot that I hope to carry to my next coaching position.?

Mazzoni joined Post in 2000 as part-time head baseball coach and was elevated to full-time in May 2000 with additional duties of fundraising for athletics. In 2003, he was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics. In six seasons, the Eagles compiled a 59-172 record under Mazzoni. The 2004 team set a school record for victories with 22 and advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. Don Schaffer, a Mazzoni assistant, has been appointed Interim Head Coach.

?Coach Mazzoni is a tireless worker. He put every ounce of effort in to his program and his other duties during his time at Post. He has improved the baseball program in many ways and his successful advancement work has given the Athletic Department the funds needed to enhance its offerings.? Mara said. ? We will miss Wayne as a colleague and wish him well in his future endeavors.?

The Eagles conclude their season this weekend against Bloomfield College. Post hosts Bloomfield on Friday at 3:00 at Municipal Stadium and then travels to Bloomfield to take on the Deacons in a doubleheader Saturday at Noon.
