Cougars? Kolesar Strikes Out 13

NEWARK, N.J. ? Caldwell College used a 15-hit attack to earn an 11-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball victory over host New Jersey Institute of Technology on Thursday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

Caldwell (19-18, 11-7) took the lead for good when Andy Chunn (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) drove in three runs with a second-inning bases-loaded double off NJIT starter Zach Porcello (Chester, NJ/Newark Academy) (2-6). After the Cougars scored on a throwing error in the third, Hasani Whitfield (Briarwood, NY/Molloy) lined a two-run double in the fourth to give Caldwell a 6-1 lead.

Cougar pitcher Mike Kolesar (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) (3-4) struck out 13 Highlanders in a complete-game victory, his second this season over NJIT. He allowed one earned run on five hits, and went 2 for 5 at the plate. Chunn was 3 for 3 with three runs scored, and all 10 Cougars who played in the game had at least one hit.

NJIT catcher Phil Resciniti (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) was 3 for 4 with an RBI. The first-place Highlanders (19-14, 17-4) are ranked eighth in the most recent Division II Northeast regional writers poll.
