CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ELIEZER NUNEZ, DOMINICAN (Jr, OF, 6-2, 200, Brooklyn, N.Y.) Batted .588 (10 for 17) with an on-base percentage of .720 in leading the Chargers to a 5-0 week, including 4-0 in conference games. Scored eight runs, drove in six, and stole eight bases. Had three three-hit games.
CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ERIC HINES, CALDWELL (Fr, R, 6-1, 175, Milltown, N.J.) In his only action of the week, carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Sunday?s victory over Wilmington before settling for a one-hit shutout in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Struck out six and walked one.
HONOR ROLL
KWESI MITCHELL, NJIT (Jr, RF, 6-0, 225, Piscataway, N.J.) Hit .563 (9 for 16) with three doubles and a triple in a 3-1 week for the Highlanders, including his 100th career hit. Went 7-11 in a three-game sweep of USP.
BRYAN FITZGERALD, WILMINGTON (Sr, OF, 6-0, 180, Newark, Del.) Hit .500 (14 for 28) in a 4-3 week for the Wildcats. Had five multiple-hit games, scored eight runs and drove in nine.
KYLE BEARD, FELICIAN (P, Miramar, Fla.) Defeated regionally-ranked Stonehill, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings, in his only action.
DOUG SMITH, USP (Sr, OF, 6-2, 180, Middletown, N.J.) Hit for the cycle, with three runs and three RBI, in a loss to Philadelphia. Hit .350 and slugged .800 despite an 0-5 week for the Devils.
NOTES
CC: Sophomore 3B Billy Ryan batted .438 last week. He is hitting .531 in his last 11 games, raising his season average from .143 to .296 He was named ECAC and NJCBA player of the week to go along with his CACC honor on April 18. Andy Chunn went 7 for 14 last week, raising his average 50 points to .296. Eric Hines became the second Cougar freshman to pitch a one-hit shutout when he blanked Wilmington on Sunday. Tommy Murphy tossed a one-hitter against Queens on March 19.
NJIT: Senior C Phil Resciniti hit NJIT?s first grand slam of the season in Game 2 against USP on Saturday. It was the Highlanders? first slam since Kwesi Mitchell?s against Dominican on May 3, 2003. Mitchell became the eighth player in program history, and the third current Highlander, to reach 100 career base hits. Senior CF Dan Lupo became the second player in school history to reach 150 career hits. Chris Legiadre picked up his 20th career pitching victory in Game 1 at USP on Saturday.
USP: Doug Smith is the first USP player to hit for the cycle in at least seven years.
