CALDWELL, N.J. ? Caldwell College senior outfielder Hasani Whitfield (Briarwood, NY/Molloy) was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Northeast All-Region first team, the organization announced. This is the second all-Region honor for Whitfield, who was a first-team selection as a sophomore in 2003.

Whitfield, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, led the Cougars in batting (.366), hits (56), doubles (14), home runs (six) and runs batted in (41). The right-fielder was named the CACC Player of the Week on Mar. 22, and he opened the season with at least one hit in 22 of the Cougars' first 24 games, including a 15-game hitting streak. Earlier this month, Whitfield was named to the All-State first team by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association.

The Cougars, coached by Chris Reardon, went 22-20 and finished third in the CACC standings with a 14-7 conference record. The 2005 season marked the third-straight year that Caldwell won at least 20 games.
