Dominican Rallies to Defeat STAC, 9-8

Blauvelt, NY -- Dominican College rallied from a 8-6 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat St. Thomas Aquinas College, 9-8 this afternoon in Orangeburg, NY.

Dominican dominated the game scoring two runs in each of the first two innings and added a run in the third for the 5-3 lead. The Spartans would answer back with a run in the seventh and rallied for a four run eight inning to take a 8-5 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Frank Maynard (Brooklyn, NY) singled, stole second and scored on the RBI double by Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY) to bring the Chargers to within two.

The Chargers led off the ninth with a single by Joe Kubanik (Stony Point, NY). Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY) followed with a single of his own, putting runners on first and second. A Spartan error scored Kubanik and Nunez scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Pete Gilardo (Cornwall, NY). Keith Gebert (Brooklyn, NY) doubled, advancing pinch runner Tom Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) to third. Mejia would later score on a wild pitch, winning the game for Dominican, 9-8.

Spartan pitcher Anthony Russo (Brooklyn, NY) received the loss.. Spartan right fielder Dan Hayden (Garnerville, NY) went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Chris Hayes

(Wappinger Falls, NY) added two hits in the loss.

Charger reliever Ryan Kratz (Rutherford, NJ) got the win. Nunez went 3-3 in the game, scoring two runs, while freshman Ed Dolan (Cliffside Park, NJ) added two hits.

The Chargers are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Bloomfield College for a single CACC game at 3:30pm.
