Manalapan, East Hanover Residents Chosen For Second Team

NEWARK, N.J. ? New Jersey Institute of Technology junior pitcher Chris Legiadre of Manalapan was named Division II Second Team All-Northeast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, according to balloting released today by both bodies. NJIT senior catcher Phil Resciniti of East Hanover was also a second-team all-region selection by the writers.

Legiadre, a product of Manalapan High, finished 7-3 with a 3.38 earned run average and two shutouts in 2005. In 77 1/3 innings, he struck out 70 batters and walked nine. He finished second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in victories and tied for third in strikeouts. Legiadre was also named first-team all-CACC and second-team all-New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association. He has a career record of 21-7.


Phil Resciniti

Resciniti?s honor follows on the heels of being named first-team all-CACC, third-team all-NJCBA, and NJIT?s Male Athlete of the Year. He led the team in most major offensive categories, hitting .361 with 11 doubles, four homeruns, 28 runs scored and 33 runs batted in. He finished his career fourth on the school?s all-time hit list with 125. Resciniti is a 2001 graduate of Hanover Park High.

The Rawlings/ABCA all-region teams were voted on by the region?s head coaches. The NCBWA selections were made by the regional voting board, consisting of five sports information directors. The Division II Northeast Region consists of 33 schools in the CACC, New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Northeast-10 Conference.

In 2005, NJIT had its highest winning percentage since 1996 with a 22-20 won-lost record. The Highlanders finished in first place in the CACC, were the runners-up in the conference tournament, and made its second consecutive ECAC playoff appearance.
