Ramapo Product Named Rookie Pitcher of Week

NEWARK, N.J. ? Cory Kuzmik of Teaneck, a freshman pitcher for New Jersey Institute of Technology, has been named New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III Pitcher of the Week, the NJCBA announced on Tuesday.

In nine innings pitched last week over two appearances, Kuzmik, a left-hander, held opponents to a .103 batting average (3 for 29). He struck out 15 batters while walking none, allowing one earned run. On April 16, he made his first career start, and tossed a seven-inning three-hitter with 11 strikeouts as NJIT defeated Wilmington (Del.) College, 3-1, in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Kuzmik is a 2004 graduate of Ramapo High.

NJIT (16-12) sits in first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 14-3 league record. Kuzmik is 1-0 with two saves and a 3.72 earned-run average in seven appearances. He is the third NJIT pitcher to earn NJCBA weekly honors this season.
