Dominican Takes Two from Caldwell, 4-3 and 8-3

Blauvelt, NY - - Dominican College got two huge victories of CACC rival Caldwell College, 4-3 and 8-3 this afternoon in a double-header at Dominican College.

In the first game, Caldwell jumped on the board in the fourth as Andy Chunn

(Lewes, DE) singled to start the inning, followed by a walk to Nick Mauro (Nutley, NJ). Chunn would score on a error and Mauro would later score on a wild pitch, putting the Cougars up 2-0. Dominican fought back in the fifth, as freshman Alex O?Connell (Red Hook, NY) singled to start the inning. Junior Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) would score him on an RBI single. After stealing second, Zani would score on the RBI single by Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY).

Caldwell would answer back in the sixth as Mauro would get on base with a walk and come around to score, giving them a 3-2 lead. Once again, the Chargers fought back in the bottom stanza as Pete Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) doubled and later scored on a pass ball, tying the game at 3-3. The game would go extra innings as Caldwell put the eventual winning run on base with a walk. Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY) would steal second move to third on a single and score on an error, giving Dominican the 4-3 victory.

Dominican reliever Jeffrey Taveras (Corona, NY) got the win, while Travis Muessig got the loss.

In the night cap, the Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, en route to the 8-3 victory. Freshman Joe Kubanik (Stony Point, NY) went 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the victory, while Nunez went 3-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

For the Cougars, Faduel Bambino (Astoria, NY) went 1-3 with an RBI and Chris Chiapappa (Elmont, NY) had an RBI.

Charger pitcher Joe Catanese (Huntington, NY) picked up the win, while Bambino suffered the loss.
