Legiadre On Second-Team; Kuzmik All-Rookie

NEWARK, N.J. – Three New Jersey Institute of Technology players have been named Division II/III All-New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association, according to balloting released today. The NJCBA is comprised of the 25 senior colleges in New Jersey which offer baseball, 18 of which play at the Division II/III level.

Junior pitcher Chris Legiadre (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan), was the Highlanders’ highest honoree, as he was named to the All-NJCBA Second Team. A right-hander, Legiadre is 7-2 with a 3.25 earned-run average and two shutouts. In 69 1/3 innings, he has allowed 78 hits, struck out 62 batters and walked seven. He leads the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in wins and innings. Legiadre was also a first-team all-CACC selection. He is a third-time NJCBA honoree.

Senior catcher Phil Resciniti (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) and freshman relief pitcher Cory Kuzmik (Teaneck, NJ/Ramapo) were voted to the Third Team. Resciniti, a first-team all-CACC selection and NJIT’s Male Athlete of the Year, leads the Highlanders in most offensive categories, including batting (.338), runs (28), hits (47), doubles (11), homeruns (4), and runs batted in (33).

Kuzmik was also selected for the NJCBA All-Rookie Team. In 13 appearances, the left-hander was 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA and three saves. In 31 innings, he has allowed 23 hits, struck out 40 batters and walked 11. Opponents are hitting .209 off him.

NJIT (22-18) finished in first place in the CACC with an 18-6 league record, and was the runner-up in the conference tournament. The Highlanders were recently selected for their second consecutive ECAC playoff berth, and will play Dominican (N.Y.) College on Friday in Orangeburg, New York. The team has its best winning percentage in 10 seasons, and needs two wins in the ECAC Tournament to establish a school record.
