NJIT SWEEPS SEASON SERIES FROM POST

April 17, 2005

Courtesy of Tim McCaffrey Post Sports Information

Waterbury, CT--The Post University losing streak reached 20 games with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep by the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology. NJIT won game one 14-13 and game two 2-0.

In the opener, NJIT and Post made a habit of putting crooked numbers on the board. The Highlanders put a four-spot on the board in the top half of the first inning, but Post countered with four of their own in the bottom of the second. NJIT answered right back with six runs in the third. After a NJIT run in the fourth, the no-quit Eagles scored six in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 11-10. The teams each scored three runs in the seventh to make a 14-13 final.

Phil Resciniti (East Hanover, NJ) notched his 100th career hit, becoming only the seventh player in Highlander history to accomplish the feat. He also tied an NCAA record by getting hit by a pitch twice in the same inning. He had two hits on the day and scored three runs. Dan Lupo (West Milford, NJ) also had two hits and three runs scored. Kwesi Mitchell (Piscataway, NJ) contributed two hits, an RBI, and three runs scored. Mike Turner (Whitehouse Station, NJ) had three hits, four RBI and two runs scored. Matthew Schlitter (Harbeson, DE) had three hits and three RBIs.

The Eagles (1-28-1, 0-14) were led by Mike Pagan (Bridgeport, CT) who had two hits, three RBI, and a run scored. Jordan Klein (Commack, NY) added three hits, three runs, and two RBI. Nick Ross (Montville, CT) had a clutch pinch-hit two-RBI single. Tony Arroyo (Plainville, CT) added two hits and an RBI.

In the nightcap, the offenses were quiet. Dennis Keefe (Linden, NJ) scattered eight hits in the complete game shutout. Omar Tavares (York, PA) was nearly as good for the Eagles. He scattered four hits and allowed two runs. Ryan Depolo (Milford, CT) had two hits. Ryan Martin (Sound Beach, NY) also had a hit.

For NJIT (16-11, 14-3), Lupo had two hits and scored the only run that was necessary. Schlitter had a hit and an RBI.

Post will play host to Bridgeport Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
