Dominican Splits with University of Sciences in Philadelphia, 2-6 and 6-5

Blauvelt, NY -- Dominican College split a CACC double-header with the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, losing the first game 2-6 and winning the second 6-5 this afternoon at Dominican College.

The Devils would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the second spanned over four hits and two costly errors for the Chargers. Doug Smith had a 2 RBI single in the inning. Dominican would get two runs back in the fifth inning as both Chad Duesler (Northville, NY) and Pete Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) would score after getting on base with singles. However, USP would answer back in the sixth with two runs, en route to the 6-2 victory.

Devil pitcher Philip Maher got the win, while Charger Joe Catanese (Huntington, NY) suffered the loss.

In the night cap, Dominican would score two runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. One run scored on a wild pitch and the other scored on a sac fly by freshman Joe Kubanik

(Stony Point, NY). Dominican would get another run in the fourth and explode for three in the fifth. Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) got a double, scoring two runs and would come around on the RBI single Gilardo. USP answered back in the sixth, scoring four runs. Corey Hider got a double to left, followed by a triple by Smith. Michael Montanero scored Smith with a double and Justin DeVincenzo brought Montanero home with a RBI single to make the score to 6-4.

USP added another run in the top of the seventh off the RBI single by Montanero, but it wouldn?t be enough as Dominican would come away with the 6-5 victory.

Charger starter Todd Spindler (Chesapeake, VA) pitched a complete game in the win. Devil starter Michael DeVincenzo suffered the loss.

Dominican is back in action tomorrow as they travel to University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for a CACC game, starting at 12pm.
