NEWARK, N.J. -- Former NJIT baseball player Cole Cicatelli has signed an independent professional contract with the Mesa (Ariz.) Miners of the Golden Baseball League.
Cicatelli, who attended Teaneck High, was a catcher for NJIT in 2001 and 2002 before transferring to Division-I Stony Brook University, where he played two more seasons. In 66 games as a Highlander, he batted .303 with nine homeruns and 56 runs batted in. His 12 doubles as a freshman are tied for the second-highest single-season total in school history.
The Golden Baseball League is in its inaugural season. Its teams are all located in California and Arizona, and all owned by the league. Major League Baseball's all-time stolen base leader, Rickey Henderson, recently signed with the GBL's San Diego SurfDawgs.
