Keels Chosen December CACC Student-Athlete Of The Month

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Ashley Keels, a senior basketball student-athlete at Bloomfield College, has been chosen as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) December Student-Athlete of the Month, announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month is awarded from September to May to student-athletes who thrive in athletics, in the classroom and in the community.

Keels, a native of Washington, D.C., is a key reserve on the basketball court and a leader in the classroom at Bloomfield College. Ashley has made the Dean’s List six times and last winter made the CACC All-Academic Team while majoring in Criminal Justice with a 3.67 grade-point average. She also is a member of “Who’s Who Among Collegiate Students” for her strong academic achievements.

Ashley has excelled outside the classroom and hardwood by being involved with numerous community service organizations at her school and in her hometown. She has participated each year in the Breast Cancer walk and helps run the youth basketball clinic for Autistic children at Bloomfield College. In addition, she has been involved with the “Meals on Wheels” program for the Newark, N.J. area since 2009. Keels has used her leadership and basketball talents by volunteering with the Dream Makers Academy, a youth basketball camp in Washington, D.C.

Keels is captain of the 2011-12 Deacons. She has always been a contributor off the court, but on the court she has a 1.12 assist-to-turnover ratio in her 64 career games. Last season she started 15 games helping lead the Deacons to a 19-9 overall record and a 16-3 record in conference play which was good enough for first place in the North Division. Currently Bloomfield has a 5-1 record at home and ranks second overall in field goal percent at 41.1.
