Caldwell’s Nikola Otovic Honored as CACC January Student-Athlete of the Month

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Caldwell College senior men’s basketball standout Nikola Otovic (Kraljevo, Serbia) has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for January, which was announced today by Commissioner Dan Mara.

Otovic, a native of Kraljevo, Serbia, h as excelled on the court and the classroom during his four-year career and has also become a leader among his peers in community involvement.
 
On the court, Otovic is the Cougars’ leading scorer at 16.1 ppg, which currently ranks seventh among CACC leaders.  In addition he has posted 3.6 assists per contest while starting all 22 games at guard this season.
 
As a junior, Otovic was recognized as an honorable mention All-CACC performer after leading Caldwell with a 13.3 point scoring average.  He currently sits 17th among the program’s all-time scoring leaders.
 
A member of Caldwell’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Otovic also is a regular volunteer for the Campus Ministry for the Midnight Run, which helps to provide clothing and food for the homeless in New York City.  He also gives his time to assist ‘Up Till Dawn’, which benefits the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in addition to serving as a tutor for inner city elementary school students in East Orange, N.J.
 
In the classroom, Otovic boasts a 3.37 GPA while majoring in Biology and was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District I Team.  He was also bestowed with the Academic Achievement Award from the Division II Athletics Directors Association in 2010.
 
The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, in the classroom and the community.
