NEW HAVEN, Conn. (June 15, 2012) – The
Wilmington University men and the Dominican College women have won
the 2011-12 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Alfred R.
Restaino Sr., Cups in an announcement made by Commissioner Dan
Mara.
The cups are given annually to the institutions that perform best across-the-board in CACC-sponsored sports. The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program’s finish in both the CACC regular-season and conference tournament. Each school receives a combined point total nd that total is then divided by the number of sports the institution sponsors.
Wilmington (11.7 total points) claimed the men’s cup for the third straight year after successful seasons by its baseball and golf programs in the spring. The men’s golf team claimed the conference championship while the baseball team posted a runner-up finish
in the regular season before capturing the 2012 CACC Baseball
Tournament crown. The Wildcats also placed second overall at
the 2011 CACC Women’s Cross Country Championship.
Bloomfield College (10.95 total points) finished second in the men’s standings following a year that saw it claim the 2012 CACC Men’s Basketball Tournament Title and the North Division regular season crown as well as an appearance in the baseball semifinals.
Dominican (10.38 total points) rounded out the top-three on the men’s side as its baseball team advanced to the conference semifinals in the spring following a fourth-place regular season showing. The Chargers also advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 CACC Men’s Basketball Tournament after a second-place finish in the North Division during the regular season.
Post tallied 9.71 total points to claim fourth place, just edging out Felician, which checked in at fifth with a point total of 9.70.
Dominican (11.46 total points) took home the women’s cup for the second consecutive year as it claimed the 2012 CACC Softball Championship, advanced the the conference semifinals in both women’s basketball and women’s soccer, a quarterfinal finish in volleyball and a third-place showing at the 2011 Women’s Cross Country Championship.
Holy Family (11.11 total points) was second among women’s Restaino Cup leaders after a solid athletic year that saw it capture the CACC Women’s Basketball Championship after winning the South Division regular season title. The Tigers also won their first-ever CACC Lacrosse Tournament title in the spring. In addition, Holy Family claimed the CACC Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship and finished first in the South Division during the volleyball regular season before earning a runner-up finish at the conference championship.
Philadelphia University (10.86 total points) sits in third place following an athletic season that saw it win the women’s soccer regular season title and post a runner-up finish in the conference tournament. The Rams also won the CACC Women’s Cross Country Championship and advanced to the semifinals at both the women’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse conference championships.
Caldwell (9.92 total points) and Georgian Court University (9.64 total points) round out the top-five on the women’s side.
