GBC'S HOOD EARNS CACC STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR MARCH

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 20, 2011) – Wesley Hood of Goldey-Beacom College has earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month honors for March. Hood is a senior member of the GBC golf team. The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month award is handed out from September to May to student-athletes who thrive in athletics, in the classroom and in the community.

Hood, who is a native of Chesapeake City, Md., is a standout golfer for the Lightning and also an active member of the Goldey-Beacom Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Hood has participated in events such as the school’s Toys for Tots program during the last two holiday seasons, delivering wrapped gifts to children at the Home Life Management Shelter in Wilmington. He also worked as a volunteer referee at the Goldey-Beacom Dodgeball Tournament on March 10, which was sponsored by the SAAC.

Hood was named to the Dean’s List at Goldey-Beacom and is a Business Administration (Management) major. He was also included as a ‘Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges’ last spring. The award highlights students and their diverse service to community and school. Recipients are the young adults who enhance the positive image of American youth through their contributions to community and school.

Hood claimed All-Conference status this season and placed 18th at the 2011 CACC Tournament to help the Lightning finish third as a team. His scoring average for the season is fifth in the school’s record books and he is fifth on the career scoring average list (79.39). He won two tournaments in his career and is the GBC all-time leader for rounds played.
