USP MEN AND NYACK WOMEN GARNER 2008-09 CACC TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS
NEW HAVEN, CT (June 15, 2009) - The University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) men and the Nyack College
women have garnered the 2008-09 Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) Team Sportsmanship Awards in an announcement made
today by
Commissioner Dan Mara.
Each CACC sport hands out a sportsmanship award at the conclusion of its respective season and institutions claim points for each vote it receives throughout the year. The point total for each school is then divided by the number of sports the institution sponsors. One men's program and one women's program receives a plaque each year. The award was first handed out after the 2006-07 athletic season.
The USP men collected team sportsmanship awards this season in baseball and basketball en route to 17.0 points. Nyack was second with 13.8 points after winning the sportsmanship award in men's soccer. Felician College was third with 11.6 points and won the golf award, while Goldey-Beacom College was fourth with 8.25 points. Post University took home the award for tennis, while Bloomfield College won the honor in cross country.
The Nyack women earned the award for the third straight season with 18.2 total points. The Warriors won team sportsmanship plaques in volleyball and cross country in 2008-09. Chestnut Hill College was second with 14.85 points and Bloomfield finished third with 11.4 points. The Griffins won team sportsmanship awards in basketball and softball, while BC picked up the honor in women's soccer. Dominican College and Holy Family University shared the award in lacrosse, while USP was the recipient for tennis.
